good luck there... The whole thing is regulated by the market and the bilateral AGREEMENT with EU... How much population? Switzerland is 67th most crowded country in the world http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...lation_density Even germany is more crowded, yes I know there are a lot of alps here.. I'd say maybe 1-2 million wouldn't be a problem...:D |

I'm definitely having a serious think about moving across the border where there's more space. If I do that without having the Swiss pass I'll be heavily discriminated against if the SVP continues with these policies so getting the pass would be more a preventative measure :) |

Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen Not a single balcony in sight here either - location, location. location. |
Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen The balconies here are a reasonable distance away... ... but many have mounted telescopes. |
Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen We are the only ones with a telescope here, lol, to look at the BIRDS! |

Anyway regarding decent sized flats with decent sized balcony and private sphere location, location, location usually means $, $, $, especially here in Mittelland but this is a matter for another thread. |
Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen There are plenty of places here that have space. The beginning of the Berner Oberland has lots of space in the hills above lake Thun and Interlaken. Not a bad commute into Bern either. Many people choose to live in densely populated areas for connivence and work. My father lives in rural New Hampshire in the states and commutes a hour to his office outside of Boston because he loves his house/farm in the country. He makes that sacrifice and has since before I was born. He could live in the densely populated suburbs, but it's worth it to him. I guess it's about what you are willing to trade off. |
Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen Spot on - loads of space, wonderful old houses with land up here in the Jura- and still very cheap. The Berber oberland, lol- never seen any Berbers near Thun:) |

Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen There are plenty of Barbers and they all charge at least 45chf to cut your damn hair :D |
Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen Quote:
There's plenty of space in Switzerland. Commuting times to work here are extraordinarily low, by some standards -- when I lived in London, or Sydney, commutes of an hour or more each way were commonplace. |
Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen Quote:
To say that Switzerland has lots of spare space because of the mountains is actually like saying that the Netherlands are actually not that densely populated as there are not many people living on the ocean. Of course this is exaggerated, but there is some truth in this comparison, because both mountains and the ocean are areas that are not suitable for a dense population (mountain villages in one, oil drilling platforms in the other) |
