| | GENEVA.... anyone trying to get across town this aftn?
all the news that fits...
Chief Security Adviser for the United Nations Security Management System in Switzerland has advised us of the following information:
“I would like to inform you that a demonstration organized by construction workers is being held in Geneva. The traffic on the Pont du Mont Blanc and in the City centre will be disrupted until the end of the afternoon.”
The procession is moving currently from the beginning of the Mont Blanc Bridge towards Plainpalais. This demonstration will cause disruption of traffic in the sectors concerned.
Staff is informed that any movement in this area will be slowed and / or reduced during the afternoon to early evening. It is advisable, if possible, to avoid travel in the area and it is also recommended that vehicles registered with diplomatic plates avoid parking in the vicinity of the demonstration.

Demanding improved working conditions, thousands of Swiss construction workers were expected to down tools across the country on Friday.
In Geneva, around 2,000 workers marched through the city centre from the central train station to the Parc des Bastions on Friday morning, while another 2,000 workers were expected to attend a similar protest in Lausanne.
Switzerland’s largest trade union, Unia, said work had stopped at several large sites in and around Zurich as workers prepared to march from the main train station in the city centre to the Swiss Employers Association at 3pm.
In canton Vaud, work had stopped at “several hundred” small construction sites, union officials said. Negotiations between employers and workers for a new national labour agreement broke down earlier this month after nine months of deliberations. The current agreement is due to expire on January 1.
