I wonder if the USA realises these criminal records are not written in the English language?
NP. Just translate in Arabic before submission.

Agree, Rick Perry has next to no chance of winning the nomination. Romney would be the best (and maybe preferred over Obama), despite his American exceptionalism stuff he has been campaigning on lately.

I still cut Obama a little slack, in the current environment it is pretty much impossible to get anything done. GOP will not agree to anything at all, maybe a cut in the top marginal tax rate would get their support, but not much else.
Just think how this will play out in the bible belt, think of the increased blood pressure at a choice between a "pufta luvin n****a" and a "Utah bigamy supporter and cultist" I have the vision of a Sherrif P Coltrane character blowing a vein over their 3 whisky and sour...

He did not fail. He is now living somewhere else, with the same household income after taxes as in Switzerland but half the living costs. Hardly what I'd call failure.

Look here.
Interesting that you equal succes with higher wages. I was refering to his rather bitter posts about social life in Switzerland.

That will probably depend on the price Switzerland has to pay to stay in the club...

The consulate is still there, it's just not doing visa applications anymore.
A) the price Switzerland had to pay may simply be too much, so that the Bundesrat will have to decide to quit. But that would not be "wanting" to quit but HAVE to quit

B) THIS here below is the official status. And that there is no USA diplomatic representation in Zürich any longer. The Zurich America Center was established by business in Zürich to assist commerce and industry connected with the USA, but is a thoroughly Swiss organisation. They indeed managed to get recognized as "Consular Agency". But at first, after the closing of the Consulate General the official stance of the USA simply was that everything had to be done via their embassy.

Yes, the man apparently persevered or even succeeded in commercial / financial terms but failed in the social respect.

Jobs for the bilinguals - nothing wrong with that.

Personally, I approve of there being a cooperative flow of information regarding criminal records between any, and all countries. If you have not got a record, what is the problem? If you have got one, well tough!

I am all for the yanks borrowing more money to fund their stupid paranoia, but like you said it will create jobs.

IF Switzerland is forced/bullied out of the Waiver Program, the USA will re-open some Consulates which will create jobs for both US-Americans and locals alike, and so will be a good thing. And in fact will be quite a positive development as such consulates improve contacts.

I forgot to add "sarcasm" in the last post, it's not like they need more things to finance. Their level of debt is mind blowing.

Honestly, CH should politely tell the yanks to foxtrot oscar. One has to make a stand somewhere, they have bullied CH enough, maybe they do not realize that their intimidation tactics will blow up in their faces sooner or later.

That's a bit harsh. I've read some of his previous posts and to me he seems one of this unfortunates who couldn't cope with working and living in Switzerland. No wonder the man is bitter as nobody admits failure easily. He may have showed some rather poor knowledge in history and geograpy but I think we should excuse him. Not everybody is tough enough to live here.
Maybe so ,but he is harping about the same crap over and over again And he left switzerland 6 month ago, which is a good thing

B.S.

There will be longer processing times for travel and it's unlikely that you will see the U.S. open anything for the Swiss. Go to the consulates in South America and watch people wait for months to obtain a travel visa.

Don't screw with the United States on national security law. This isn't the European Union. The US government officials are bigger pricks than the Swiss and they are unyielding.

May be. But do not screw with Switzerland on independence matters, and Swiss top officials are unyielding when coming under pressure. Sure, Switzerland had to compromise towards Nazi Germany, but it was surrounded by Nazi Germany then. However NOT by the USA now. Do not forget that the USA in the 1960ies and 70ies was THE most important overseas trading partner, but those times are long gone, with Asia have become far more important. And Switzerland can well survive getting dropped from the Waiver Program. If having to wait, Swiss businessmen will shift their emphasis to other countries.

To compare the E.U. with the USA is rubbish, as the E.U. is NOT a country but a union of independent countries. So that, in case your statement means that Switzerland had to surrender to any whim of some chaps in Washington/DC, then I might remind you of the case of a famous film-chap arrested in Switzerland, who then got released against US wishes.

Switzerland has a long tradition of seeking compromises with foreign bullies but not really surrendering. And if the US chaps want to copycat Nazi Germany, so be it

And add to this that the Swiss business community is used to embassy people of other countries who are far worse than US diplomatic staff can ever be, and knows how to deal with such chaps. "Wait for months" `? If this happens, the US ambassador to Switzerland will get "invited" to the office of Mr Burkhalter very swiftly. Such a practice would be in the media very swiftly. And media in the neighbouring countries would be eager to take over the story. Particularily as no translation would be required. THIS here is NOT Latin-America !

Wrong, wrong, wrong, and doubtful. The U.S. is one of the most important trading partners of Switzerland, and probably the most important other country for Switzerland's stability and survival. Our taxpayers bailed out your banks during the financial crisis. "Mr. Burkhalter" has no power over our national security policy and really isn't a fly on the ass of the United States. He's be good for a laugh though.

Actually, it's the other way around. Swiss businessmen will not wish to be dropped from the Waiver Program, which is why Switzerland will do the sensible thing and comply with a reasonable request from the United States.

Wrong ? Still nr 1 as "single country"
Wrong ? One of the most important trading partners indeed
Wrong ? nobody wants to stop trade with the USA
Wrong ? the UBS was bailed out by the Swiss taxpayers (not USA)
Wrong ? CS was bailed out by people from the Arabian Gulf
Wrong ? Mr Burkhalter is not in command of any US authority, but is of relevance to the USA ambassador in Bern.
Wrong ? Many people laugh about foreign ministers, as foreign ministers, in spite of their high ranking position in their country are astonishingly powerless. Look at Hillary Clinton. Everybody knows the lady. But what "power" does she really have inside the USA ? None. She could be sent out to the prairies by Mr Obama this afternoon. A bit different with Mr Burkhalter, who was elected by both houses of the parliament (NOT just approved, but ELECTED)
Wrong ? The National Security Policy (NSP) of the USA is relevant for the USA but is NOT the basis of law in other countries.
Wrong ? Switzerland over many years has helped the US-NSP as far as it was not in contradiction to laws in Switzerland
Wrong ? Mr Roman Polanski in the end got freed, in spite of pressures from the side of the USA
Wrong ? Compromises impossible ? THIS is not true. There will be a compromise with the USA getting the Swiss police records of the past 10 years, or something thelike. Nobody will really like it but everybody will claim victory and success

As soon as the request from the USA becomes reasonable, which it at present is NOT, things will be settled. Again, NOBODY in Switzerland wants Switzerland to get dropped from the Waiver Program. To stay inside, Switzerland in the past has amended both passports and even Identity Cards. While at the other hands, the USA compromised in regard to details of the passports.

But again, your declaring a totalitarian request as "reasonable" lacks reason

And every taxpayer sent your sorry ass banks our hard earned money. So where's this gripe with the United States?
Those US-taxpayers NEVER sent donations ! They simply used offered services. Nobody has a "gripe" with the USA, but apparently, some US people have a "gripe" with whomever is not ready to be governed by the USA. Those US taxpayers however, who want to hide their money from the US tax office(s) will better in future go elsewhere, as the bank-secret in Switzerland will gradually be reduced to 1932 levels. The "bank-secret" in its full form was a set of measures introduced to keep back Nazi Germany, and was/is heavily outdated anyway. The discretion-laws of before 1930, based on the constitution of 1848/74, with later add-ons of between 1948 and now, is perfectly sufficient. If you hear that the whole "tax-evader-business" even in case of UBS makes up less than 15% of the total of their business (still billions of course ) and that a lot of the money for various reasons will come in nevertheless, you realize that this reduction, apparently looked for by Finance Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf and Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga, makes lots of sense. Not only to please Mr Obama, but most of all for Switzerland itself. Do not mess with these two women. Both have a long personal record of having exerted tremendous influence inside and outside Switzerland out of ZERO-POWER.

Both ladies of course know precisely well that the bank-secret is a union-matter, and that they therefore for a rare change do not depend on 26 Cantonal governments and Cantonal parliaments. Some parts of it are not even federal laws but rules, regulations and decrees issued by the Federal Council

And when you mention relations of the USA to other countries, France and Britain have a long and amazing history of having rejected "reasonable requests" from the USA. The same applies to lots of other countries. The fall of Hosni Mubarak at the other hands to quite an extent was the result of his yielding to US demands always. But General Mubarak of course was aware of who delivered the missing wheat, the missing finance and the missing military hardware free of charge.
-
So, once the USA supplies Switzerland with 100 advanced air-superiority fighters and 200 advanced ground-attack fighters FREE OF CHARGE, and allows Swiss officers to get educated in the USA FREE-OF-CHARGE, and allows licence production of spares in Switzerland without restrictions, Switzerland will fully comply with your "reasonable requests" immediately, and nobody will launch protests on the roads
