Your Swiss justice system at its best.

This elderly gentleman was arrested 3 times within a year and a half for having sex with underage boys in Asia. Each time, they sent him back...and after spending a few month in jail, he venture back to Asia despite his ban from certain countries.

I wonder how many people need to be victimized, until this sorry excuse of a justice system gets up to par with civilized places.

Re: Your Swiss justice system at its best.

I was going to respond when i read the article and say...well he was 81, maybe they let him out on moral reason, sickness or whatever. It doesnt say he was sick, and I dont think age really should play a role. Even if you are an old fart like this guy, you should still pay for what you did.

The Blick also has a link to some French pedophiles who were sentenced to 7 years in jail for the same think (unlike the lenient sentence here) One of the pedos was 71

Although it's also a mistake of the Asian borders to let him in. Looks like they don't care much about "their" children there as well.

They should at least confiscate his passport. I heard that he can now be prosecuted in Switzerland for these crimes, so maybe justice will arrive before he dies.

Nearer to home, a study reveals that just 14 youths were responsible for 700 sexual attacks against under aged girls. 223 young sexual male offenders were investigated, for 1'400 crimes committed between between 2002 & 2008, and not very much was done about it!

Yeah, sexual and violent crimes don't get the same attention as let's say minor traffic infringements. Like this dude, who raped over 20 women and was released numerious times.

The fact that, like any other sexual offender in Switzerland gets second, third and fourth chances....his passport should have been revoked the first time around.

Re: Your Swiss justice system at its best.

There are plenty of free lance do-gooders in Asia that photograph these paedophiles and report them to the European police forces. There is plenty of evidence available these days to at least suspend the "gentlemen's" passports. And recently they do get prosecuted in their home countries.

You and I both know that the very poor families permit their children to prostitute themselves. In the Bild article it mentions $20 changing hands, enough to feed an Asian family for a week, or buy Grandad painkillers for a month.

These countries unfortunately do not have the wealth to support western moral standards, they turn a blind eye to avert further poverty and suffering.

But neverteless the crime happened in the jurisdiction of these counries. Thus it is upon them to prosecute this crimes or ask Switzerland to do so. Why should Switzerland procsecute crimes happening in other countries, without them asking first? As far as I know is the USA the only country that claims that the whole world is in its jurisdiciton.

As far as I get it, he committed his deeds in Cambodia and in Thailand and not in Switzerland. So that they are matters of the Thai and the Cambodian judiciary. Again, according to the article, he spent time in prisons overthere. AND, when he has served his prison-time, neither the Cambodia nor the Thailand nor the Switzerland judiciary can do so much. Looks as if there is no ban (yet) by Thailand, so that he can get into Thailand legally. To get from Thailand to Cambodia is fairly easy for somebody who bribes some border officials. Unless he even knows uncontrolled routes into Cambodia

Certainly these countries can only do so much, but if someone has commited these attrocious acts within such a brief period of time, then some sort of lreventative actions should have been taken IMO. It is incomprehensible how they let him loose like that. I don't even want to think of what previous acts he has gotten away with earlier in his lifetime.

Most land-borders in the world have "soft" sections. And according to the article he is banned from Cambodia but not from Thailand.

I only have that article to go upon. It might be interesting to see transcripts of the protocols of the Cambodian judiciary. And what "preventive actions" do you have in mind ? Based on what laws in which country ? According to the article, he at present is in jail in Cambodia, and the Cambodia judiiciary quite obviously this time is not in a hurry, and the desire on the Swiss side to get him "back home" obviously is rather limited.

Interesting indeed, but countries with Napoleonic law-systems, which means Continental Europe and most of Africa, Asia and Latin America, canNOT sentence somebody for crimes committed abroad. Exceptions are international war-crimes (War-crimes tibunal DenHaag) AND Nazi-rule & Holocaust related crimes.
