It's been common knowledge for a long time, hardly a mega surprise as the CHF is so high.......
Trying to earn a living in the film business over the last 5 years has been like hitting your head against a brick wall, they can go to London, Paris or Munich for 60% of the overall cost, why use people living in CH.

Re: Merck Serono layoffs

Yep, the lot. Possible transfers to be offered to 600 to Boston (US) Darmstadt and Beijing, 500+ others to lose their jobs in Geneva. Major lay-offs in Vaud too.
No more 'news' for three weeks until the official consultation period is over but not hopeful of anything but early retirement in Hubbie's case.

At least we've no longer got children still in school, as we had when Glaxo pulled the same trick.

Need a stiff gin, and bother doctor's orders!

Oh gosh, sorry to hear this.
We had a bit of a scare when Alstom were talking redundancies, but touch wood, managed to ride the storm. I can't imagine how you are feeling Anjela.
Take care, hope you are okay, along with everyone affected by this.

*sad face*

Just out of curiosity, was Merck struggling in 2011 or did they pay out huge bonuses and say everything was going great and 2012 is going to be a good year?

Been semi-expecting it I think, but the whole place going is a huge shock. Déjŕ-vu again after what happened with Glaxo.

Just starting to hit home and after the terrible end of year we'd just had (lost both in-laws with a month of each other) we had been hoping for a better start to this one!

I'd like to comfort eat but my doctor would kill me! Doomed.....

Both! Paid something like 20% to share-holders (who are mostly family mmbers I think), plus reasonable work-place bonuses a few weeks ago.
One of the problems has been the exchange rate, and not enough new products coming through that are anything like ready for the commercial market. When push came to shove the german unions were a lot stronger than the swiss government so as something had to give, it was us.

GVA, was he/she always a 'guest'? No idea where they went. A shame as I would like to know if they're affected as well!

no GVA .. he/she was a regular member... was still a member as of this morning I think.. and I thought the old suicide pill that was issued over terms and conditions had expired.

yes I was wondering also if he/she was affected by Merck
