Re: Balogh Zalán missing

Daily updates by his brother who now travels the route Zalan was supposed to take...

UPDATES
15 July

Örs Balogh: Unfortunately we don't know anything regarding his bag or clothes. We don't even know what he was wearing the day got dissapeared... We asked his boss personally, but he can't remember, although he is the one who has last seen him.The swiss police tried to get some recording footage from the surveillance cameras from Chur where Zalan helped his boss shopping for Camp before boarding the POSTBUS to BELLINZONA, without luck, because they only keep about 2-3 days of recordings history, and when we began thinking that Zalan may have dissapead, it already was too late for any video footage...

Gergely Márton: They have managed to get Zalan's Laptop from the police. I'm going to check his laptop in a few minutes.

Áron Márton: we have an appointment at 14:00 with the Flims Police.

14 July

Örs Balogh: On the 14th of July in the evening, we managed to get to the camp site where Zalán works. We were able to speak to his boss who took him by car to Chur Railwaystation. He told us Zalan is a very responsible person, he once missed a flight to Zürich, but called imediatelly, from a strangers phone (I think it is enough to proove he is able to solve any kind of situation).

Áron Márton: We bought a WIND sim card, with 10gb of internet traffic included, and very cheap per minute prices if we want to call abroad, but the only bug problem is that it is still inactive. I mean that they told us when we bought the card, that after an hour it should activate and we will get a confirmation sms. We got the confirmation sms, but our card remained inactive. We had and we still have signal, but we can't call beacause it sais we don't have enough credit to make a call or access the internet, although we recharged the simcard with 15+5 euros, and from the 10 euro price of it's initial prce, they told us we have 5 euros usable credit. Every time we entered a WIND specialized store (not a reseller) they told us we have to recharge the simcard, and they also told us that after recharging it, we can immediately make calls or access the internet (which surely wasn't and still isn't so). So thanks to WIND, at this time we DO NOT HAVE any internet nor voice access...
...
We are still waiting for the simcard to become active, and in a few minutes we are travelling to Flims-Laax, Switzerland. We intend to contact the local police in Flims, and ask for it's help to get some concrete information about Zalan's situation: at what time exactly was he left alone at the bus station, maybe there are some survaillance systems available and maybe we can view sime recordings...

13 July

This morning Örs and his friend went to Carabinieri police (gendarmery) and they didn't know about Zalán's case. They started to scan hospitals and the data base of unidentified persons. The presence of the family members means a lot.

Áron Márton: On the 13th of July we managed to get an appointment with the Carabinieri (italian police) but only in Cornaredo (Milano's Notrh-Western edge) because the Milano Central Police (Questura) acted quite humiliating with us. They wouldn't talk to us, only if we took an Italian citizen who was representing us in front of the police. They said they can register a complain or a request, only with an Italian ID. After contacting Lada Katarina Bronina by phone, she came with us, and translated. They tried to calm us down (although we have never acted nervously) saying that everything is ok, claiming they made all the necessary steps regarding the registration of a missing person in the police database. They also said hat they have the fax from the Hungarian Embassy and they ALREADY REGISTERED BALOGH ZALAN IN THE MISSING PERSON'S DATABASE. In a few words, they threw us out politely from the police station.

After this happening, we arrived to Ida Zetenyi's place, by the help of Lada, where Ida called the local police (Carabinieri di Cornaredo) asking about a missing person called Balogh Zalan. We were surpised when they said that they cannot find any missing person with the name of Balogh Zalan in the ITALIAN POLICE DATABASE.What???? A few hours earlier the police hedquarters assured us taht they made all the necessary steps... Ida said that this is typically italian stuff, and we shouldn't expect more from italian police. In the morning of 13th of July, we went to the Cornaredo Carabinieri with Ida, who is an Italian citizen. The policeman was very kind, he asked a lot of stuff regarding Zalan's disappearance, he copied and printed all of zalan impoant photos that we gave him, and most importantly he INSERTED ZALAN INTO THE ITALIAN POLICE's MISSING PERSONS DATABASE. He also said that Zalan was in the Shenghen misiing persons fatabase, but this wasn't for any help. This means that if Zalan is stopped by the police anywhere in Italy and he is asked for any documents, HE CAN BE CHECKED INITALIAN POLICE DATABASE AND HE APPEARS MISSING, so in this case the police can announce the Hungarian Embassy, and the Embassy can call us. Even if Zalan gets to a hospital without any documents, inconciuos, the hospital is forced by law to announce the police, that they have an unidentified person, and the police CAN IDENTIFY HIM BECAUSE HE CAN BE FOUND IN ITALIAN POLICE DATABASE. The policeman said that if he is in a hospital, the police should identify him in a few days, including weekends.

12 July

‎Áron Márton:12th of July, Milano, Italy: After arriving to the Bergamo airport, we traveled by bus to the Milano Centrale Train Station (this is where Zalan should have arrived from Switzerland), we managed to meet the Hunagrian Ambassador in Milano City Center at the Hunagrian Embassy. They updated us with all the steps they made regarding Zalan' case. We also got a copy of the complain the Embassy sent to the Milano Police, a map of Milano and the necessary indications to the nearest police station, where we could have obtained some more information about Zalan' case. After getting to the above mentioned police station, we were sent to the Milano Questura (Milano's central police headquarters), because of language issues (at the first police station nobody speaks english, and they don't have any translator).

Örs and Áron are at Ida Zetényi's place, Milano, they will soon take of to the carabinieri police.

Aron Marton: WE SUCCESCFULLY ARRIVED TO MILANO CENTRALE TRAIN STATION BY BUS FROM BERGAMO AIRPORT, TODAY AT 9:30. OUR NEXT MOVE IS BUYING A PREPAYED INTERNET SIM CARD AND LOOKING FOR A SMALL CAR FOR RENT. WHISH US LUCK!

Kincső Balogh: Örs and his friend landed in Milano at 07:45 (am).

11 July

Kincső Balogh: Örs Balogh and his friend are on their way to Budapest.

10 July

A small update: on the 10th July, at 15:45, the Hungarian Consulate from Milan called us. Dr. Ronaszegi Aron consul asked about the updates in Zalan's case. The consul told us that they also notified the police department in Milan and asked them to search for Zalan. This way, the search for him has reached to a higher level. Until now, they weren't searching for him, because they didn't know if he crossed the Italian border or not.

Hungarian Embassy writes (via Frank Schleßmann): we started to investigate on last Wednesday (4th July), after the parents announced Zalán's missing. We notified the printed and online media, as well as the swiss television. After the locals received the news there was hardly any feedback. There was a clue in the canton of Tessin, but it had a negative outcome. Our measures didn't succeed so we have no idea where Zalán Balogh could be. We don't have further statements and evidence inland or abroad. We immediately announce you in case there are assumptions on the case. Greetings from the GRAUBÜNDEN county-police.

7 July

We got in touch with revrend Stéph Zwicky from the Evangelisches Kirchegemeinde of Chur (Evangelical Congregation of Chur). She promised that duuring the Sunday service they will present and talk about Zalán's case.

Márton Gergely: About the trip to Italy: Balogh Örs (oldest brother) will travel to Italy on Tuesday, because WizzAir has the next flight to Milano on Tuesday. Because of objective reasons he will travel with a friend who is not family (still deciding if one or two persons should join Örs)

6 July

After talking over their possibilities, the family decided to travel abroad Monday.

Kincső Balogh: The police went to the Camp to gather Zalan's personal belongings to check for investigation.

Kincső Balogh: We have been announced that Zalan is NOT IN PRISON (ITALIAN POLICE)!

Roberta Bottaro: Penelope Italy, Lombardia division, has been active on the Italian territory.
Penelope Italia - Associazione Nazionale delle Famiglia e degli Amici delle Persone Scomparse (Penelope Italy - National Association of the Family and Friends of Missing Persons)

5 July

There are no results of Csongor Kelemen's and Ivan Schimdt's inquiry yet.

We got in touch with Ivan Schmidt, trainer from swissmissing's K9 Unit (dogunit). He posted posters of Zalán at Bellinzona train station and shops and also in a bus (Bellinzona-Chur route). He is in contact with the Police and the Dog Unit of the police, thinking of a next step.

Csongor Kelemen, a former classmate of Zalan's is putting up posters at the following route: Bergamo Airport, Milano Railway station and he is travelling to Bern, Switzerland. He is traveling the same route as Zalan did but backwards, and he is asking questions along the route!

The relatives decided to take action by traveling to Switzerland/Italy for it is the most effective way to find out information and cooperate with the police. Therefor we ask everyone willing to support Zalán Balogh’s investigation to donate via PayPal, the transferred money will help the Balogh family to move forward with the inquiry and find their missing member.

POLICE DEPARTEMENT GRAUBÜNDEN INFORMED PRESS IN SWITZERLAND, MANY NEWSPAPERS REPORT ZALAN'S DISAPPEARANCE

WE HAVE BEEN INFORMED: ZALAN HAD TO TAKE THE POSTAUTO FROM CHUR NEW TO BELLINZONA and NOT THE TRAIN (he initially planned so, not because of landslides)

4 July

Gergely Marton: We've found out that he had to board a postauto in Chur at 18:08, 28.06.2012.

- Swiss and Hungarian Police officially reports him missing
- Swiss (german and italian) and Italian newspapers report him missing

Örs Balogh: WE HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED that ZALAN's CASE HAS BEEN ADDED TODAY TO THE INTERNATIONAL DATABASE

3 July

Full translation of Gergely Marton's updates (3 July):

1. The police will only make a move if the Hungarian Embassy/Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces them to investigate the case. If someone calls the police to notify them about a missing person, it may not be taken seriously... it would be the best to notify the police personally, but in this case at least a week has to pass starting from the date he would had to arrive back to his work (Sunday - 1st of July), so that means next Monday (9th of July).

2. I talked to the train station officers, there was no train service that day on the route which Zalan had to travel through, because there had been landslide... He probably also found out this information just when he arrived there.

3. I talked to the Bus Tickets Booking Office which substituted the train on that route: They checked the reservation sheet for the 28th and 29th of June, but Zalán’s name was not there. The employee I talked to said that every day starting from 8 am to 6 pm buses depart every hour, so it is possible that he was on the 6 o’clock bus on the 28th of June, but in this case he bought the ticket on the bus, so he didn’t reserve one, so it is almost impossible to track wether he was on the bus or not. Örs, his brother said that a picture with a description about him was sent to the train station and the bus company, so in case someone regularly travels on that route, or a bus driver (there is 15 of them) recognizes him, they can report it.

4. He didn't check in at Milano-Bergamo airport, so he wasn't taking the flight (we know this from RyanAir)

5. His iPod may not have a GPS because I don’t know exactly which model he had (3G or 3Gs iPod), if someone somehow could tell me the Serial Number, I can track it down (this can be found on the Guarantee Paper, usually, on the package of the product). He didn’t check his email accounts, non of them. If he goes online (surfs the internet), it is very possible I can find out from where he accessed the internet.

6. If somebody has friends, aquitances in Milano, Lugano, Bellinzona, please ask them to go to the bus/train stations with his photo.

Örs Balogh: ALL POSSIBLE OFFICIAL WAYS EXHAUSTED in HUNGARY - NOW WE CAN JUST WAIT for HUNGARIAN OFFICIALS TO MOVE FORWARD by ANNOUNCING SWISS & ITALIAN AUTHORITIES

Örs Balogh: IN THE LAST 24 HRS FEW MILANESE & SWISS HOSPITALS WERE CONTACTED, NEITHER OF THEM MET ZALAN's NAME

Örs Balogh: ZALAN HAS NO MOBILE PHONE - HE CARRIES AN IPOD TOUCH 8GB MODEL - WE FOUND OUT HE DID NOT CHECK IN ON BERGAMO AIRPORT, SO DID NOT FLY TO BUDAPEST

- Romanian (Cluj) newspapers report him missing

2 July

Örs Balogh: OFFICIALLY NOTIFIED: HUNGARIAN POLICE, HUNGARIAN EMBASSY BERN, GRAUBUNDEN (GRISONS) CANTON POLICE SWITZERLAND

Örs Balogh: ALSO OFFICIALLY NOTIFIED: HUNGARIAN EMBASSY MILANO - ITALY
