Switzerland arming in preparation for European meltdown?

I found this interesting in RT this week, good idea just in case.

The Swiss Army is preparing contingency plans for violent unrest across Europe. A nation mostly famous for its banks, watches and chocolate fears it may face a massive influx of European refugees in the near future.

One of the world’s richest nations openly expressed concerns over the possible outcome of Europe’s continuing financial troubles, and is currently conducting army exercises against the possibility of riots along its borders.

In September, the Swiss military conducted exercises dubbed ‘Stabilo Due,’ with scenarios involving violent instability across the EU.

This is one reason why Switzerland is such a successful country despite its tiny size. They look ahead and prepare themselves. Just as they foresaw the demise of the EU; therefore saving themselves humiliation by not joining!

apparently Herr Maurer hasn't strolled the Limmat on a weekend afternoon or visited Geneva recently, the European refugees are already here.

To establish and to work on worst-case-scenarios is standard procedure, not only for the Swiss army, but for most armies in the world. Armed forces, Police forces, Ambulances, Fireworkers all have to take the worst into consideration and prepare accordingly.

Better than the predecessor, BUT still without a corkscrew, wnich means big business for Victorinox as the soldiers will purchase a second pocket-knife with really required functions ! We always had the "offiicial ordnance knife" for inspections and the like and the one we really used

Who needs corkscrews these days? Everyone knows the best wine is sold in screw top bottles where you don't have the possibility of a bad cork spoiling the wine

Which I much appreciate. But lots of wines, particularily stuff sold in out-of-town villages, where you in military service most likely will land up, still have the old-time corks to be opened. Practical was that the "ordnance knife" was in silver and the "commercial" stuff in red. The one we got from our commander (captain/Hauptmann) at the end of service is black, with the name of the unit in black in a silver field.

History repeats itself, the Swiss border guards sent certain refugees back between 1939 and 1945.

Beside the point that it was 1934 and 45, this time, they had to stop 99% as people fleeing due to economic problems are NOT "refugees" by Swiss Federal Law.

Re: Switzerland arming in preparation for European meltdown?

An interesting front page in the Z/Unterlander last week. "Is your shelter equipped with the necessary for a few days?", and a list of requirements, eg. 9ltrs water per person, cans of soup, sugar, salt, etc etc.

Is this a gentle reminder of maybe something to think about?

Re: Switzerland arming in preparation for European meltdown?

What the Swiss should do is lay out massive lines of toblarone at the borders. This work in 1939 and will work again for two reasons:
A) the refugees will assume Swiss people must be massive because of the size of their bite-size confectionary
B) they will be tricked into thinking that Swiss chocolate isn't as good as they'd heard, and not worth the effort of moving to be nearer to.

Everyone knows that our fall out shelters aren't for us to hide from the bombs, rather to lock up our nasty foreign neighbors.

And then eat them when the food supplies start running out ....

How much rent can we charge the refugees? There's got to be a profit in here somewhere.
