Skier outruns avalanche

A skier taking part in the Swatch Skiers cup in Zermatt was almost hit by an avalanche, but managed to outrun it. Watch the video!

Heh heh, in case of avalanche, do backflip. Insane.

Pretty cool, reminds me of when T Rice ducked under and out of an avalanche a few years ago.

He was so lucky - rule numero uno in an avalanche, don't try to outrun it but go directly to the side.

Exactly. He did apparently, at least as I see it on the video, the possibility to get to his right into the cover of those rocks. But he apparently started the avalanche himself and wanted to do a show. My guess is that the whole thing became a bit narrower than planned. But all this is just guessing.

Whatever, I admired his splendid skiing style. Reminded me of my brother who also did skiing that way, and at times also launched a bit silly stunts.

Rule 1 , is don't get in an avalanche in the first place!

I think it kind of depends when and where it hits.

Sometimes you need the speed going down to get out at the side, but, none the less, you need some luck on your side.

To see some crazy dudes outrunning avalanches and doing other unreal stuff, watch the Art of Flight, with Travis Rice.

Here's the trailer:

Crazy mofo's

Just a shame they use these board things instead of proper mountain equipment

Re: Skier outruns avalanche

A vid with a near death experience will sell for an awful lot more money, I was told by one of my ex students who is a pro snowboarder from Champery area.

I understand the adrenalin rush, etc, but in a way find it perturbing that some people need to be constantly on the edge of death to find life worth living.

I am getting there

Hopefully the day JBZ86 was lost in an avalanche is not being discussed on EF anytime soon.

You would have loved my brother ! The best was when our parents were sitting in a café just beside the ground station and somebody said "" but that chap to right up there will kill himself, mad what he is doing". Mum just dryly replied "no reason for panic, that is just our older son, he will be here in a minute and some seconds" And so he was. Some people got some snow into the coffee when he stopped

It's even more impressive in 3D - unfortunately Samsung have removed it from their 'Explore 3D' Smart TV app.
