A victim of its own success by the looks of it.

Re: Oops, not so eco!

A few lithium batteries should do the trick.

I particularly like this paragraph :

The hutís green credentials have taken a further beating. Wastewater treatment is supposed to be carried out in a special onsite facility, but because of a clogged filter, water used in the kitchens and the toilets has been released into the snow behind the building since last winter.

& the building can house 120 guests in its 19 bedrooms; must be a lot of cr*p behind the building.

And to think that most of the guests go there for the view and the fresh air....

I always wondered where the stripe in the Gornergletscher came from.

Re: Oops, not so eco!

You should go to Aiguille du Midi during the winter and watch enormous yellow icefall on the right side of hut while approaching it with cable car. Then you can understand that letting out some grey water is actually not so bad.

Usually there are two main options: letting the faeces into the ground or flying it into the valley. Of course they are trying with other alternative methods like: transporting shit with conveyor into (solar) ovens, drying it etc. Monte Rosa hut is still state-of-the-art that is more or less possible only in (overpriced) Switzerland.

French, for example, have put some policeman to prevent people to overcrowd the new, shiny Gouter.

Well they don't make it very easy to recycle but the $40 trash bags certainly make me think twice about what I throw out.
