Falkland, yes because air fore was fighting conventional army.
Afghan and Iraq, well, it depends. For Iraq, when fighting the conventional army, airforce was excellent. But when it switched to guerrilla, it reduced a lot it's advantage.
Disagree completely, the airforce were the 'eyes' for the conventional army.

As I said an Air Force is a lot more than a few fighters firing off missiles.

I agree with you that it is a bit more than just a couple of fighters or missiles, drones for example today, with all their effectiveness, are just like mosquito stings, they can't change the rules on the ground.

You can have better vantage point from the sky, but you still need an army on the ground to control

Of course you still need troops on the ground but a good Air Force makes their job 'easier'.

Not sure how a historical discussion is really appropriate in light of the death of those aboard the jet.

Not appropriate, true. But inavoidable.

The army put a "Graphik" into the media which shows the flight-route of the plane in its last seconds. Which is seriously confusing as it shows a downward-route, something the pilot for sure did not want. Of course, millions of "Biertisch-Experten" will know the answers right today. I pity family and friends of the two victims who now will have to persevere, and to go through whatever comes

Indeed. This is the reason why in right now kept away from such meetings. The danger to say something which later becomes nonsense is unbearable. When writing news, I in such moments simply leave the item aside. That the fireworkers-chief up there had a talkative moment was enough. And the "Grafik" I mentioned is pure ammunition for the GSOA people

Then the acronym wouldn't translate, as it's in Deutsch.

The second link has language options.

Re: F/A-18 has crashed in Obwalden

Apparently 23rd October is a very popular date for Swiss AF crashes.
There have been many on this particular date over the years.

I wouldn't describe any air crash as 'popular'
