The Swiss airforce does seem rather pointless. The surrounding countries, e.g. France, Germany & Italy would not allow foreign aggressor jets to overfly their countries, and equally each of France, Germany & Italy have enough (modern) airpower to wipe out the entire Swiss airforce in minutes. Small stealthed drones would be much more reliable as eyes in the sky, with which to support the traditional Swiss guerrilla warfare in the mountains.

Relating to 22 yards' post above, Maybe they're just there in the event of a terrorist takeover of a commercial jet - not that they can actually do much in such a situation, apart from shoot it down.

those drones are pointless and useless

During regular business hours only, that is.
NOT from 23.55 to 00.02 to give the pilots time to listen to the national Anthem on SRF.ONE --- but 00-03 to 23.50

And CH could have a few middle-range rockets that they could load with some cr*p from their nuclear power plants and use as a dirty bomb deterrent.

If Switzerland has a war with either France, Germany or Italy your billion(s?) dollar air force will be gone within minutes. Against Austria it might last hours. That's a lot of dead pilots and expensive scrap metal - not even considering the loss of the lives of the training pilots in the interim (the sad start of this thread), and the horrible loss for their families in the years/decades/centuries/millennia until any awaited war happens.

Drones might last days or even weeks in action. For (?) a hundredth/thousandth of the cost. That's just consumer drones today - even the midrange ones will be impressive in a decade or so. They'll be as capable as the US Predators of today in a couple of decades.

But CH doesn't really need either. The electronic communications with any drones would be backtracked to their controller by the circling French/German/Italian/Austrian air force. My guess is that it would be much more effective to rely on the classic Swiss unsupported individual in the mountains with a rifle.

Well, yeah... Deep Purple posted that nearly three years ago, when that previous accident occurred...
