I forgot my wallet once on a counter in a shop there, only missing it hours later. It was still on the counter when I returned. Amazing hey?

Can you imagine that happening here in Switzerland in the last few years?
Statistically there is no big difference in crime rate between middle east Islamic states and many middle European countries. So please don't count too much on this argument.

he stabbed a guy, of course he needs fixing, I've never denied he is a wrong'en have I? simply pointing out that 2 people where fighting against him, and at his age he could still be turned around.

Been in trouble since 9 kinda tells you he is from a very broken home and really deserves some breaks
Now, bigblue2, have you seen the photos depicting *Carlos*? Have you seen his massive build? Have you noticed his bulging muscles?

Now, imagine him attacking your father. And 18 year old "youngster" against an "elderly" man? Now you (a fellow +-18 yrs old) attempt to come to the aid of your father, and you get stabbed twice. Not pushed back, not thumped, but stabbed with a metal knife - twice.

You`re just a young fellow doing your trade. Now with your punctured lung you don`t have the same energy you used to have. Your days are not as comfortable as they used to be.

And this is because a young man tried to attack your father.

The young man is from a broken home. Who is NOT from a broken home? He "deserves some breaks"? Why? From 9 years old he just keeps repeating his crimes. For the following NINE years he just continues venting his violence on others.

So he`s been treated as a juvenile criminal, provided with comfort and guidance. Now he`s an adult - lets wait and see if he really changes into a specimen fit for society, or not. My bet is on the "not". Prison is too comfortable.

Or he`ll, once free, receive a whack of money for his "story" - and retire to a nice island somewhere warm, where he can indulge himself, and where his "Swiss social aid" quadruples itself to provide him with the lifestyle he is entitled to. He is now infamous. The Mighty *Carlos" himself.

Meanwhile, the rest of us can continue going to work, paying taxes, and staying out of trouble the best we can.

Hahaa .... "statistically" the summer temperatures in those countries also do not exceed 45c - when there`s a building boom - because it`s illegal to make labourers work outdoors above that temperature. (I measured the temperature at 55c going up to 60c in direct sun.)
So don`t rely too heavily on statistics. They`re just a numbers game played by whoever needs to manipulate them.

Re: Carlos: the most hated person in Switzerland right now?

yes I've seen his build, its very impressive and goes to show he does have some commitment and drive and if channeled properly he *could* make something of himself.

I read a different version where he was fighting with the boy, the dad came to help and the dad got stabbed?

I'm in no way defending him, he was a scum bag, time will tell if he's still a scum bag, locking a young well built scum bag in a big building with older wiser scum bags isn't going to end well for anyone, lets see the outcome.

From an Arab friend. A real Arab. One who lives in the Emirates, wears a long white gown, dish-dash on his head, leather sandles, a member of the royal family. Of course that`s only ONE person. He could be lying I guess?

The jail experiences there were gleaned from characters who`d experienced it. And those with convicted friends/family.
Statistically, the Arabs DO feed their prisoners - except its food that is usually not acceptable or palatable. But statistically the prisoners are fed.

The statistic temperatures are my own find, first hand, with a thermometer.

Having one`s hand chopped off is a great theft deterrent - usually not having to be repeated.

Same as one jail sentence is also a good deterrent for crime - also usually not repeated. An habitual criminal is unheard of in Arab lands.

There are also not many prisons there. The amount of prisons in a country depicts the level of crime.

That is easily researchable information, their levels of petty crime are especially low.

The example I quoted does not align with this *Carlos* case. The prisoners I mentioned were people incarcerated in prisons and made to do manual labour (for their own good - ie-food supply)
Only once they had proved their change of attitude were they allowed outside into relative but restricted freedom.
I was responding to your claim that such an individual could never become a productive member of society, not Carlos specifically, and also not the means by which rehabilitation is carried out.

Such early offenders do change, Mark Wahlberg being one well-known example (although it was ironically seeing his future constantly in prison that triggered this change), and some do not. Generalizing that none can is remarkably short-sighted - if that is not what you're doing, then I apologise, however that's what you've posted reads like.
Quote:
Not the same as being housed in a private apartment, given Sfr1,000 pocket money a month, plus all the other luxuries provided, being trained in a form of martial art.
Again, I've never defended Carlos, let alone the waste that has been incurred at his 'rehabilitation'.
Quote:
Oh yes, there have been a few times in my life when I could have quite vengefully and spontaneously have killed someone - but the thought of spending my life in prison for those moments of "self-satisfaction" was a great deterrent. It made me give more thought to my behaviour.
Then I'd suggest you check out Hare Psychopathy Checklist, as if getting caught is the primary reason for you not committing murder, you've already on the way to being diagnosed a sociopath.

Having lived in Saudi and Bahrain did you not notice the level of theft is almost nil?
And of course, Mussolini made the trains run on time...

Re: Carlos: the most hated person in Switzerland right now?

Yup. I definitely think Switzerland should model its penal system on that of Saudi Arabia.

Or, better yet - how about North Korea? I bet there isn't any crime there at all!

Yes, let's send these juvenile delinquents to death camps and have them all buried alive in ditches! That'll learn 'em.

Re: Carlos: the most hated person in Switzerland right now?

Surely the answer is in the middle?

Putting Saudi Arabia as an example of how things should run is too scary to even contemplate.

But treating delinquents like they are being rewarded for their crimes isn't the answer either, is it.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't care who you lynch, incl Carlos, but too much middle school rhetorics kills the benefits of rhetorics in the first place. I might be a monster because I don't let the victims cut the throat of their offenders, I can live with that.

If he went out carrying a knife, then it WAS a preplanned crime
Everybody here carries some pocket knifes around. And for reasons like picknicking you carry good kitchen knifes.

http://pics.ricardostatic.ch/2_72296...nder-dolch.jpg

This is a knife not only boyscouts but most boys have on them, as often as possible. In school, a majority of the boys had such things with them but there was never any incident

Your conclusion is completely wrong

My son is a member of Scouts and he certainly does not use or have a knife that big.

But what size and type?

The blade of one of mine is 9 cms, the total length is 20 cms, the with of the blade at its widest position 1,8 cms . When it is open and you want to close it you need both hands. To open it goes far swifter with a double movement.

The other one has two blades, even the larger one smaller than above, plus a variety of tools including bottle opener, can openers, pinzette, tooth-pick, scissor, screwdrivers

If he is a CH citizen, he canNOT be deported. As the Federal Constitution clearly states that no CH citizen will ever be deported

There are other people living in freedom who committed crimes in the past. What you demand is that this country violates a basic principle of the constitution. NO WAY
