| | SVP the loser of municipal elections in the Canton of Zürich
The SVP is the loser of both parliamentary elections and executive elections in towns throughout the Canton of Zürich, while the FDP (Liberals) won in most places. Also on the winning side was the CVP (Catholic-Social)

I wouldn't call it a landslide defeat, more like natural fluctuation following on from the last couple of elections ...
Meanwhile, interestingly, the FDP has managed to break out of its downwards spiral and bounce back a little. The SP on the other hand hasn't.
The GLP is continuing to grow, and in my personal prediction, this is a party you should be watching out for as they have what it takes to go further still.

That's what I meant. The strongest party lost a few seats but still has by far the most yet gets called the loser.

Main winners were the FDP-Liberals, but also the right-of-centre Green-Liberals

If you combine the numbers of FDP, GLP and EVP, parties which can be regarded as sister-parties, they in combination are equalling the SVP. Interesting is to see the gains of the Alternative List. They may disappear next time or get up farther. An absolute disaster is the fate of the Social Democrats. And strange the fate of the CVP, which in the past 20 years all over the country went downhill, but now in some ZH towns got forward remarkably well.
You spoke about "absolute". The point is that the SVP in many ZH towns a few years ago dominated the municipal government but no longer does. While the traditional Zürich government party, the FDP, apparently has recovered nicely.

There were, before 1940, a number of farmers parties and a number of small business parties, who then merged into the BGB Party (Bürger/Gewerbe/Bauern > Citizens/small-trade/farmers) and later renamed into SVP. The SVP was centrist and left of the FDP until Mr Blocher took over and moved the SVP to the Far Right. Many important SVP leaders like Ulrich Giezendanner resist this up to now. At some point in the future, the SVP will move back to the centre and thereby pulverize the CVP. However the CVP may merge with the EVP and move into Protestant areas
