Swiss old timers tell me they use to have cat before ad during WWII, due to scarcity.
Austrian old timers remember of same kind of stories during and shortly after the second world war. I thought they were urban legends...or jokes, something.

Re. Switzerland...why a petition like this would be necessary, I wonder?

Typical Swiss gourmet meals Monday till Friday - same dish everyday... Btw, they tend to eat less around Wednesday.

I guess people now understand what "Schwiizer Wuche" at McDonalds means.

Re: Do Swiss people eat cats and dogs ?

Granpa used to eat smoked dog (he was born around 1900).

My dad used to say that a dead cat, skinned and without innards and without head and paws, is virtually indistinguishable from rabbit without special equipment - the bones look very similar and the meat tastes the same. That's why the butcher will usually leave at least one rabbit foot in place if he sells the whole body, usually the behind two as that's where the body is hung on to let it bleed out.

I won't doubt that some swiss do indeed eat cats and dogs, even today. However, in an interview with 20min.ch Tomi Tomek, the driver behind the petition, can't give a source. The numbers in the article are a lie.

Dogs, yes -- we've covered that before -- but I don't think a lot of cats get eaten. IIRC, they're not particularly good (as food) for humans.

Wikipedia seems to think that some Swiss eat pussy.

There was a big scandal in the 1960ies, when some Italian restaurant owners were proven to have organized the stealing of cats to save on the costs of meat (Beef, lamb, etc)

Apparently this is all over the news. Mirror, BBC, Washington Post, RT ... all are on board the wagon with this hyperbole.

He's almost right. Humans are the ultimate apex predator, hence we are not (often) food.

If your husband hasn't snacked on a juicy croc burger, he doesn't know what he's missing!

In Australia, you can "eat the coat of arms". Guess what the principal ingredients of the pie below are ...
Never heard of 'long pig' ?

I'm afraid is too late...everyone is already thinking they would find cat delicacies at every corner in Geneva or Zürich...

See how little it takes?

If I think more of it, it might boost the tourism industry...

Re: Do Swiss people eat cats and dogs ?

This pops up every few years. I can imagine many European countries ate cats and dogs many years ago.

Times have changed and food is abundant. It wasn't always like that and it's a shame when people forget that.

Chalk it up to sensationalism.

.
I'm not so sure about that. On the other hand, objectively speaking there's absolutely nothing wrong with eating cats and dogs, in some cultures they are considered delicacies.

There.
