It's funny when you think how many people eat pigs (yeah, pork is good ) and as we all know they're not the cleanest animals...

Oh we better not talk about cleanliness and animal. I'm sure the list will be longer and many people still eat them

Apparently, when it comes to hygiene, and left to their own devices, pigs are supposedly fairly clean - it's often the conditions in which they're kept, can be questionable.

They roll in mud to clean parasites and protect against sun burn, and they can't wipe their bums, but other than that they try to stay clean.

It is not unknown for people to have them as house pets - and they're equally as intelligent as dogs ....... and taste good.

I once saw a pig peeing in its corn bowl and then continue eating from the same place... I decided this animal had no common sense!

Well the reason, they are thought of a disgusting source of protein is not rooted in tradition as some might think.

If you look at the structures of old cities/villages, they are built in hamlet and circular form. Waste from villagers would always go outside the city walls in the surrounding area. From that pigs and boars would eat the trash thrown out there. And that is "their own devices". It's one of the reasons Islam dis allows the eating of pigs, as Islam comes from these times.

A pig, as much as you want to think it is something good, will eat it's own poo if it wants. And it is proven, that no matter how BIO you can raise a pig, eating it is a toxin for healthy living.

If it cleans itself properly, but eats poo, well I don't care, you are what you eat.

Re: Do Swiss people eat cats and dogs ?

This subject made me feel so queasy
The whole disgusting idea is almost impossible to even fathom.

But then again.. if we feel this way for the animals we consider our loveable domestic pets then perhaps the feeling should be extended to other animals too ?

I'm starting to believe that vegetarianism has strong arguments.

Humans for the most of history have lived off of a plant based diet. Animals cost far too much to the environment then automobiles do.

However a few bad storms and the cost of cereals skyrocket, and the poorest of the poor go hungry. And then they riot, and kill people.

Protein in flesh does help stabilize the human population of more then one respect.

Granpa used to eat smoked dog (he was born around 1900).

My dad used to say that a dead cat, skinned and without innards and without head and paws, is virtually indistinguishable from rabbit without special equipment - the bones look very similar and the meat tastes the same. That's why the butcher will usually leave at least one rabbit foot in place if he sells the whole body, usually the behind two as that's where the body is hung on to let it bleed out.

That's what I've been told when I grew up as well, because usually around Easter and X-mas loads of cats tended to get ''lost'' and my step grand father, who was a farmer and came from long standing farming stock, told me, that if cat meat is put into a brine/pickling liquid or similar the taste is not discernible whether it's rabbit or cat .....and that in olden days the very poor people did that to get some meat on the table.....
