I would agree, as humans we rely on our senses to protect us from danger. The most important sense is sight---if our brain links the visual signal to some negative past memory, we probably won't like the food.
How many here, who would never eat cooked cat or dog, decided not do do so before seeing what it looks like? Indeed, how many have even seen it?

There seems to be a lot of straw grasping rationalizations taking place here.

I think most people, if given cat or dog meat, prepared to look like chicken would have little hesitation to try it.

Conversely, there are many people, who can't eat normal meats that still have the head attached.

But that's kind of my point; all this nonsense about what it looks like is ultimately just that; nonsense - it's what people think it is, is what matters.

One of the ZRH APT restaurants for decades had KANGAROO on their menu, Quite good except that I strongly suspected that those kangaroos had miaoued around in the Zch area not too long before

Of course that is true, but as humans logic and perception are greatly divided.

Logically, there should be no issue and food is food, in reality, the look, smell, colour, presentation are extremely important.

Master chefs are highly regarded on their presentation skills, wine tasters are always fooled by cheap wines in expensive presentation. We appeal our decisions to the emotions not the core value.

And your argument collapses the moment we point at those who've never seen a dish but consider it 'disgusting'. The judgment calls may be emotional, but ultimately they're not governed by our senses, just what we believe things to be.

I think you should read my posts again. Or you're just confused

My argument is simple. The majority of humans will make emotion judgments, which are based on the senses. This is the fundamental operations of every human being...not sure what's to argue there.

So explain when such judgments are made without the senses coming into play, and thus not being based on them. Pointing this out is not confusion on my part, but highlighting a logical fallacy in your reasoning - the only confusion is your insisting that it's down to the senses, when it can be shown that in many cases the senses don't come into it at all.

Many younger Swiss see horse as something that their grandparents generation would have eaten. Steak tartare, I've been told, falls into this category too.

My kids love horse, in fact it's one of the things that my daughter misses most living in LA!

All judgments in the human brain are based on senses experienced which are then built into emotions.

For example why some people don't eat cats:

As a younger individual, they see a cat, the cat is a pet. They see a person petting the cat, they see the cat showing affection and they go to pet the cat as well. The cat feels soft, they hear the cat purring, they feel the cat lick their hand. Positive emotions are built in the individuals brain of camaraderie with the pet due to the symbiotic pleasant feelings that are sensed.

These emotions make it difficult to reconsider the animal as a food source.

Pretty basic psychology.

So I take it the only reason you can change your mind about those foods you hated in childhood is because your eyesight has since deteriorated?

Sorry Urs, but I'm calling bulls**t on your theory.
Where did I say that? Considering how you argue I can only assume you're intentionally misinterpreting my statement. That leaves no room for a reasonable discussion.

There are many reasons to not eat something. I suggest you widen your tunnel view.

Dad used to say it's virtually impossible to distinguish between slaughtered (i.e. skinned, bled out and innards removed) or cooked rabbit and cat once both head and paws have been cut off (microscopical and DNA tests aside of course). We had rabbits ourselves back home, bred to be eaten; even then Dad always left one paw in place when he slaughtered them.

Just for reference, the five human senses:
sight
hearing
touch
smell
taste

And you call other peoples' arguments BS. Oh the irony!

Because elderly people realize the difference swiftly, and because horse-meat smells badly. Had such stuff once -- it is horrible
