For those who haven't read today's March-Anzeiger, there's an article that another tennis star, Gabriela Sabatini, has moved to the Höfe District:

"The Höfe District is evidently very loved by top tennis stars. Martina Hingis, Roger Federer, Belinda Bencic - that Höfe offers a home to these tennis stars is well-known. Now another dazzling name from the tennis world can be added. The Argentine, Gabriela Sabatini, is living since a short time in the Zentrum Staldenbach in Pfäffikon, confirms the Einwohneramt of Freienbach."

I read the thread today and indeed its so very beautiful place of Roger. Also one thought crossed my mind these millions of dollars on a house. Yes I agree its an individual money and they can spend as they like it but if it would have been you how you would have spend it. I believe I will post a new thread on this topic when I get the access.
Thank you for this post.

Basically, if somebody has so much Money, a house is always a good Investment. Had I millions at Hand, I would have houses in
- Zürich
- London
- Paris
- Lugano
- Milano
- Pisa
- Oran
- Tunis
- Alexandria
- Beirut
and would live here and there as required

Just for the record: Mid to senior level bankers outnumber professional tennis players easily 100:1 in Wollerau. I know cause I lived there. And to be even more direct - if I had half the cash of Federer was my house bigger than this one. It's really nice, but hardly a "mansion"... I guess it does not have that much priority for him as he is travelling half the year anyways.

Re: Federer's new mansion in Wollerau

How many of those flats did he buy? Just the top one? If so, I agree that it's quite small for a family of 6, not including the nannies.

However, it's still lovely.

Honestly: this is a guy who made over 50 Mil USD last year alone. I am pretty sure he likes a place with a garden, tennis court and a couple of other nice to have details. I cannot help the feeling that this flat is the smallest place credible enough to make the tax authorities believe that he lives in Wollerau... nothing more.

EF readers knew already on Friday of Gabriella Sebatini's move to Pfäffikon. Tages-Anzeiger readers had to wait until today:

It would be good to see the CH authorities as scrutinising of new building proposals as the humans who will live in them....ghastly design - not improved by the "what's left in the crayon box" colour scheme

I can't work out if the illustration is computer-generated imagery, or an actual photo.

Federer hasn't settled down yet. He will sell this apartment in a few years I guess. Regarding taxes there are of course differences in Switzerland, and Wollerau is surely cheaper than other locations.

Which isn't THAT helpful for him, because as a tennis player he has to play source tax in the UK anyway and so on.

Indeed.
He bought land on the Gold Coast recently too. And more than enough to build a tennis court or two.

Re: Federer's new mansion in Wollerau

With tournament earnings being a small part of one's income and endorsements making up the bulk of it, there is incentive to be domiciled in a tax-friendly place.

You missed the articles that followed. So far Federer showed no interest to use that land and the community is disappointed...

Federer in general IMO still has no clue where he actually wants to live in the future.

If he would want to avoid taxes he would have moved to Monte Carlo long ago, like Djokovic for example.

Maybe that's part of his tax reducing strategy. As someone else suggested, his flat in Wollerau is probably not going to be his primary residence for ever but must appear to be so for the moment.

Perhaps he's start building in a year or two?
