Fair point. I wonder how it copes with Glyceryl Trinitrate spray as well

Well swabbing is routine in the UK, had my iPad swabbed 5 times this year, never flying out of ZH or GVA.

Chicago you say?

Might be cheaper way of being screwed than my Ashley Maddison subscription.

Yeah. You have to pay a tribute of baby milk.

They're clever, these agents. They can smell suspicious liquids a mile off!

Does this mean that farting at the security control is a terroristic act?

Re: New Swiss Airport Security Measures

Measures to improve security may be alright but panicking is rubbish. As already Michael Heseltine, British aviation Minister under Teddy Heath, stated correctly "" an airport is a kind of living organism and so a total security is not possible "" (BBC TV autumn 1972)

Interestingly, France President Hollande in his speech about giving Chevaliers de la Legion des Honneurs to the Heroes of the Amsterdam Brussels Paris Train correctly emphasized the role of personal Courage. While few people would have the physical ability to do what they did, many have the Chance to exercise what JFK described as CIVIL COURAGE

Re: New Swiss Airport Security Measures

I've always wondered what they do if they get a positive.

It's not illegal to handle explosive chemicals, or have them in minute quantities on your hands. They could search your hand baggage - but that takes less time than doing the test anyway.

I guess they could check your hold baggage, with all the difficulties that would cause. But it would be so easy to just get someone else to pack it, leaving no residue.

So what's the point? At best you may catch an extremely dumb terrorist, and stop them setting fire to their own feet - great use of resources and adding more hassle to everyone, not

Such an admission would amount to heresy nowadays.

So what's the point?

There is no point. It's all for show.

When I was stopped at Chicago, they asked to whom the baby milk belonged. I said that we were a family, it belongs to all of us. Apparently this answer wasn't good enough, so I admitted that it was mine, just to give them an answer. They took me aside for a very humilating "pat down" ("grope down" would be a much more accurate description), swabbed my hands for explosives, then asked which bag was mine. I pointed to my backpack, which they proceeded to take apart in great detail, including rifling through my medicine box and messing up the order of the tablets, before repacking it so badly that half the stuff didn't fit back in.

They didn't check or pat down anyone else in our group.

All this because we - as a family - were carrying baby milk (which is on the list of "tolerated liquids").

Of course, I could have said that the milk belonged to my wife. I could have pointed to a different bag when they asked which was mine. We are a family, we carry all sorts of stuff in all sorts of bags - we don't really have "my bag" and "her bag" in any meaningful way.

But none of this is relevant to the powers that be. The show must go on, no matter how absurd, pointless or humiliating it is for the passengers.

It's episodes like this that prove that Bin Laden actually won.

But the alternative would be the return to well proven ways

What's ironic is that word on the street suggests that "al-Qaida" (if such a thing ever existed) is on our side now, or something like that...

How the world turns, eh?

I'll use that next time - point to daughters bag; massive teddy, pencil case, colouring book; great we're done

Or take an empty bag as part of the group

Maybe they will use the Channel Tunnel technique where a bunch of cars/people are swabbed, do one test and examine the group individually if there is a positive?

My experience at other airports is that the test takes less time than repacking your pockets, two things that can be done in parallel.
