| | Church (and cow) bells opponent denied Swiss citizenship!
A sad story about a Dutch citizen, Nancy Holten from Aargau, who has lived almost all her life in Switzerland but to whom Swiss citizenship has been denied, despite her local Gemeinderat approving her application. In any other european country she would be a citizen but not here. http://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/wei...id4408371.html | The following 6 users would like to thank Dack Rambo for this useful post: | |

If she doesn't like church bells, then she shouldn't have chosen to live so close to them.
Looks like she was already publicly complaining last year ahead of her Swiss citizenship decision. What a dullard. http://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/mit...id3375207.html
I really hate it when I read about townies moving to countryside villages in the UK and then when they protest that they don't like this church bells they are silenced after centuries of tradition. https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl...UK%7CcountryGB
I can empathise with Nancy Holt's opposition to animal bells (esp sheep/goat with bells attached to their ears) but to make complaints in the media while waiting for a naturalisation decision is just plain stoopid.
But just as I wouldn't want Sharia law in my home country/neighbourhood for example, I don't think auslanders should have influence on changing laws they don't like in the same way as Swiss natives. I might want to change laws in say Saudi Arabia but then again I wouldn't ever want to work there never mind become a citizen.

| | Re: Church bells opponent denied Swiss citizenship! | Quote: | | | | Résumé of article in English please, as per forum rules. | | | | | The Aargauer community punishes Nancy Holten ( 41 ) and denied her naturalization . This even though the Dutch woman has lived for 30 years in Switzerland , and has committed no crime .
Of the 206 present and voting of Gipf-Oberfrick 144 think Nancy Holten had did not deserve the red ball. The reason: The 41-year-old Dutch woman had committed media attention and indeed against cow and church bells, animals in the circus, as well as for the vegan diet and the reintroduction of rest compartments in SBB trains.
In contrast, the positive arguments came about that Holten has lived for thirty years in Switzerland, something has never been guilty, their children are Swiss and the council endorsed, does not seem to naturalization.
"I will remain myself. Maybe not as radical »
"She has taken up issues and was present in the media that has many vocal citizens and vocal citizens certainly do not fit," said mayor Regine Leutwyler after the decision to "Tele M1".
The Aargauer SP National Cédric Wermuth can not understand that voting against the Swiss passport: "And again, a decision will fall in front of the first court. Naturalizations are away from GM and urn! "He wrote on Twitter.
Nancy Holten himself says: "If I had made the request two years ago, he would have been adopted." Your commitment have influenced the decision with certainty. You will remain himself in spite of disappointment: "Maybe not as radical, perhaps more peaceful."
But she wanted to continue to speak their minds, Finally, the Switzerland a democracy. How does it go on now, she did not know yet. Holten can move on the decision of the municipality to the Administrative Court. (ant)

Tom | | | | | No need to go that far, the decision is likely to be reversed if she appeals it.

I had to swear my allegiance to the Queen and her descendants to become British- even Canadians have to do that.
She is of course entitled to protest, but then has to accept the consequences. If she understood the process and decision making of applying for citizenship- then it was daft to be so loud in her complaints re cow and Church bells, surely.

| | Re: Church bells opponent denied Swiss citizenship! | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | Totally agree, we love our Church bells in our small market town in the UK, 4 bells every quarter, + the hour, and also the 1-2hrs of peels/bell ringing practice once or twice a week. BUT - I also think that there is no need for those bells to ring all through the night. Midnight is 4 x 4 bells + 12 = 28 bells- and that is just too much. A sensible compromise would be for the bells to stop at 10pm and start again at 7am. But that is not relevant here
Genevans who rent/buy holiday homes in my area tried to complain about cow bells- and were certainly told to go to unpleasant places... or back to the Geneva noise, if they don't like it.

She could have made her point after she got the little red book, no?
