They debate change that "normal" people don't think about.

We discussed at home last night "what would you raise for a referendum?" - deciding on "doggy day care should be tax deductible".
And I thought my life was boring

Which bit is rubbish? After all I raised a number of points.
I assumed you were intelligent enough to make the map. My apologies for overestimating your intelligence:

The SVP suggested that incurring the cost of doing this [put them in a secure facility instead of ordinary prison] for foreign nationals was a drain on Swiss tax payers and instead the foreign national should be deported.

Looks like Blocher has been reading my posts!

According to Tagesanzeiger here (German language) he says the SVP should stop creating new initiatives and instead use their strengths of two cabinet ministers and many Parliament seats.

He said a similar thing in his webcast last Sunday.

He says "The initiative is the instrument of the opposition."

Of course he does not say that major defeats like last Sunday are poor propaganda for the party.
I heard similar on the RTS radio today. The DJ was making jokes about Blocher and making clear that he always uses the argument of protecting 'the people' but these same 'people' in the referendum completely disagreed with them. The DJ was laughing at him.

Further I saw the sheep posters with 'Merci' written on it. Wonderful outcome

Re: Feb. 28th vote on enforced implementation of the deportation initiative

From Guardian here today
"North Korea says it will 'never, ever' be bound by UN human rights resolutions"

If the next SVP initiative passes about ignoring international law then we will able to join together with super countries like N. Korea, Somalia and South Sudan.

CAN be deported not MUST be deported - some users gets their knickers in a twist about not clarifying that beyond any doubt

Re: Feb. 28th vote on enforced implementation of the deportation initiative

Thanks, looks like it will take some to implement even the AI law.

The article says "Sunday’s unsuccessful follow-up initiative – also launched by the People’s Party – sought to remove the hardship clause and implement the 2010 initiative to the letter."

So far as I know the DSI had nothing in it to actually remove the hardship clause? I assume because the DSI was written before Parliament had finalised the hardship clause? SVP should have waited a while and then could have formulated the initiative more specifically to remove the hardship clause

If passed DSI would have created a constitutional change which would have been somehow in conflict with the existing hardship clause; some people thought both would remain giving judges a choice!
Anyway it is all water under the bridge now.

Correct - yesterday's vote was purely to add it to the constitution and so effectively force judges to deport "double offenders". As it stands from 2017 deportation is open to judges for "double offenders" who are foreign nationals resident in Switzerland.

Anyone saying "this vote is xxx, yyy, zzz and shows the Swiss to be racist" clearly didn't read and understand the purpose of it.

You're so right - I was under the impression the law was arriving early 2017.

Re: Feb. 28th vote on enforced implementation of the deportation initiative

Amusing sideline
Swiss deportations to Nigeria, for example, cost around CHF 14,000 whereas using the EU Frontex service costs only around CHF 3,000.

Now the SVP in the person of Toni Brunner are pushing the Bundesrat to use the EU Frontex service more often, source here.

Maybe being linked to the EU is not so bad!

Re: Feb. 28th vote on enforced implementation of the deportation initiative

2015 Crime statistics just released here show an overall decrease of 7% versus 2014.
Biggest reduction was in burglaries of 19%.

This despite the fact there are ever more foreigners here
