Vote today 5th June

Early results forecast that the following initiatives will fail;
Milk Cow
Basic income for all
No profit goals for public services

And the following pass;
Changes to Asylum law
New rules for checking embryos for disabilities

Bad day for the SVP

For SVP, its about 50-50.

Personally, I'm happy. Everything exactly the way I voted (I was undecided on the asylum thing)

"For SVP, its about 50-50." The initiatives they supported failed and the ones they were against passed, how do you turn that into 50-50?

It simple. The original equation shows in favour of SVP=50-50=0. Therefore the net outcome for SVP is being null.

Yeah yeah I know people love to bitch about SVP just for the sake of bitching about them, but it's simply not always appropriate or true.

Voilà.

To make you happy marton: not 50-50. 2/5. Close enough.

Wisconsinite has no particular reputation at present
Re: Vote today 5th June

Everyone was against the basic income. So, cannot really count that one as a "win" for any particular political party.

The SVP have failed so miserably recently in the campaigns they put a lot of resources into - let them have a hollow victory or two! Maybe they will learn the stupidity of opposition?

Today they got practically no support outside of their own supporters.

SVP Graubunden supported the public services one; this is known as having your cake and eating it. So you cannot claim as 100% win

And Roger Köppel (the great white hope of the SVP) also campaigned for the public service one.

I agree. It crossed my mind today that if their propaganda wern't as ugly, offensive and primitive as it is they would probably win more often. So I guess we gotta be grateful.

REALLY? I thought when I read it. Then realized I only got 2/5. LOL.
But the one that was really important I got, so I'm good with it.

Indeed, I hope most Swiss voters have now learnt to look through the propaganda and understand what these initiatives really mean.
For example, the Milchkuh initiative where the proponents kept very quiet about the downside; that existing services would have to be cut by 1.5 Billion or new taxes raised for this amount.

Probably their biggest mistake was to deny the MEI initiative would impact the EU bilaterals; that did eventually open many people's eyes

Or that the Unternehmenssteuerreform part 3 (corporate tax reform) would need to be slashed. Which may well happen anyway though. Perhaps Kanton Luzern will serve well as a warning.

Re: Vote today 5th June

I got 5 out of 5 (6 out of 6 counting our cantonal vote) so I'm quite happy.

Given the SVP lost the 3 votes where they were clearly out of step with the other major parties (Milchkuh, Asylum, Embryos), I see this as a clear defeat for the SVP.

Re: Vote today 5th June

Everything, federal, cantonal and local went as I voted except for UBI, but I never expected it to pass anyway and am just happy the vote increased awareness. I tend to vote GLP (Vert'liberaux here) and were they against UBI as in that list? They abstained from giving a definitive yes or no here, but that may be a Geneva cantonal thing.
