SVP still in opposition!!

There was a lot of concern voiced that the Swiss Parliament had moved to the Right after the last elections which made a lot of "non-Right" people unhappy.

Then a couple of days ago Blick published an article claiming they had an expert who studied Parliament voting since the last election and he found that the SVP was not only not supporting other Right parties but actually sabotaging their efforts
Source here (German language)

Now today the SVP leader had an interview with Blick where he explained the problem is not that the SVP are stuck in "opposition mode" but it really is due to the fact that the CVP and FDP have moved Left - so cannot be supported.
Source (German language)

You really could not make up stuff like this

One would think that a party with the most Swiss voters, two Bundesrat members and 65 Nationalrat members would start acting like adults; not permanently sit in Opposition

Re: SVP still in opposition!!

It's how they work; once they stop they'll lose a significant share of their voters. It's also the reason why they're underrepresented in government on just about any level: You can't govern by saying no and blocking everything, the world moves on anyway.

To those it wasn't obvious already, their mendacity must have become apparent by now with the Kündigungsinitiative, a referendum that may be launched that will explicitly demand cancelling the Bilaterals.

Ironically, many of those who vote SVP are exactly the ones hurt most by their actions, someone will have to finance the tax reductions for corporates.

Re: SVP still in opposition!!

This is a common situation throughout Europe. Other parties conscientiously collaborate to freeze out right wing parties, even though the party may be the largest in the country. You see the same thing over and over again with elections in France, the Sweden Democrats, the Austrian Presidential election, etc. Until it pops out in the form of something like Brexit, then people get shocked and cry about it.

Sure. Give me a single example in Europe where the largest party with the most votes is not leading the government but in permanent opposition...

Sweden Democrats come to mind. Also a number of election cases of winning the first round ballot only to lose the second. It is actually a coalition strategy openly discussed as a way of preventing the right wing parties of getting into government.

Sweden Democrats come to mind.
They are the third largest party in the past parliament election with 12.9%.

Hardly in the same league as the SVP and pretty obvious in an opposition situation given the election results... the SVP on the other hand is the leading force, but still pretends they are "sticking it to the man" despite actually being the man...

Well, in Ticino they are only the 4th or 5th largest party.

So which party do Maurer and Parmelin belong to then?

Or maybe a success. When other people start stealing your policies, it sort of vindicates your position. But if getting votes matters more to you than getting your policies adopted, then index it is a problem.

Yeah It is.

Also the Ticino SVP is not like the national one, they are just anti-euro FDP for the most.

Ohhh. Can't wait to vote on cancelling the Bilaterals. About time someone with balls steps up to the microphone.

I mean one day, the Swiss are killing Hapsburg overlords and then a few hundred years later the Swiss sell-out to EU-SSR overlords in the form of bilaterals and crying like little bitches because parliment did not give them paternity leave. What gives? Time to give the EU flunkies the old heave-ho.

Would be nice to be able to have a vote where the topic is crystal clear instead of hidden under a bunch of rhetoric about other topics; I doubt the SVP would go for such a straight objective which they know they will lose!
