surprising to see switzerland ranking so far from north korea given that they have such good relations also I am sure in switzerland it is illegal to record video or report around government or police activities reason for which government building even if just a simple traffic office is not available on google street view.

Its in german, but if you are really interested, this should not be a problem

| | Re: Press freedom in Switzerland? | Quote: | | | | | Having a police helicopter circle over your street for 1 hour in the dark with lights and sensors is news. But I don't expect "you" to understand that. | | | | | Um, no? I live only about 45 minutes from your place and I personally could not care less... so it's not really that important to anyone outside the Spreitenbach area.
The police not telling everything all the time just because you are curious has nothing to do with press freedom. There are tons of good reasons for that. If they are for example searching for a minor will they be very careful what they are communicating... or if there is somebody on the run is it a decision of the police if it's more important to warn the public or to keep it low in order to not alert the person they are hunting.
And yes, privacy counts a bit in Switzerland - I for one think it's a great thing not to have UK style tabloids that illegally hack into the phones of dead people to get their story.

Some countries have Freedom of Information laws that ensure people can request any information about government actions and politicians must disclose all their details including personal finances.
Does Switzerland allow people to request info about government actions and politicians? Or is this privacy data protection?
Teach me I am not Swiss I don't know. And relax not all posts are anti Swiss it's simply free expression and freedom of speech.

I know that police is a cantonal matter, so I'd bet that there are different rules in different cantons and as a rule of thumb would the left leaning western Swiss cantons publish anything including the underwear sizes of all Kantonsräte while in central Switzerland every emails gets a standardized reply with "none of your business, mate!". Your area is just on the border between ZH and AG, so I don't even know what police websites you could check.
Kantonspolizei Zürich has it's news here: Latest about your area is that they arrested a ring of criminals counterfeiting money last week... http://www.kapo.zh.ch/internet/siche...e/aktuell.html | The following 2 users would like to thank Treverus for this useful post: | |

Please note that its my discussion thread therefore I have to read all your crap and groan you if needed, however you dont have to stop and keep coming back to it to troll it because that's trolling.
additionally not every post that is made by a foreigner and that is in contradiction to your opinion is bad or anti Swiss, in contrary its good to have a diversity of ideas and views. Therefore please post informative replies or just click to the next topic of interest. It only makes you look bad if you stop on peoples discussion topics to type some long negative hate-filled reply. Love you all! | Quote: | | | | | Edzoom

I think I have to thank you for this post. Reading that someone puts my country that close to North Korea triggered me enough that i finally signed up after years of ghosting this forum. Meanwhile i Kind of lost interest in discussing with you, but hey thanks for the kick
To Topic. I feel like there just no public interest in the Police commenting everything they do. As others already said, you are free to read the press Releases.
And btw, i think no police officer in the world will comment on an ongoing Investigation.
PS: Is it just my Computer or why do random capital letters apear at the start of some words?

In my case I guess the browser falls back on assumptions based on geodata (IP for example) because there's no account data to rely on. But that's just a guess.

"Ah, you're in Switzerland! We're going to make you read it all in German with no way of changing the language, and we don't care if you want to read the text in the original language, or - for that matter - in one of the other languages of Switzerland because we are thick, arrogant bastards and everybody in Switzerland obviously wants everything in German all the time regardless of context or location."
Bastards. I'm not bitter.

Hi,
there is no really a problem with Google or Microsoft. With Microsoft just go to the bottom of the page click on Schweiz Deutsch and choose the land /language you want to use for Microsoft.com For google it is equally simply. Browse to http://www.google.com/ncr and after that when ever you choose www.google.com you will go to the US version of Google.
Have fun
Martin

Although I did none of the things BaselLife suggested, the results I get are always in the language I search in.

| | Re: Press freedom in Switzerland? | Quote: | | | | | Privacy for average people is a joke in Switzerland. I will touch upon that sometime in the topic I started, but you may already have noticed that as soon as you moved in you started getting junk mail from all over Switzerland.
How come ? Ah the city sold all your personal details to any Swiss company
willing to pay. Same for any stalker who wants your info, he only needs your license plate # . The privacy thing was invented to justify banking secrecy, it existed for people who wanted to hide things in Switzerland so banks could
develop into the behemoths we know now. No privacy for regular folks. In fact, the Swiss govt for a long time spied on them, and still does. | | | | | Build a new tin/aluminium hat? You need it apparently
