last night the police helicopter was flying over my village for a hour but nothing in the news.

I am assuming it has something to do with the major crimes from the last few days but why isn't anything in the news? Is it normal for people to stay calm nothing unusual about a police helicopter flying low over your village in the night for an hour with lights and sensors

That's right - nothing particularly unusual in that. Especially as it's over the Dietikon Spreitenbach area which are both quite largely populated.

This kind of thing is an every day occurrence in and around Zürich, and Dietikon is around Zürich.

to be clear I like it I think its cool and I support the police but I wish there was more information available when there are such large operations underway... because clearly people can see and hear the large police presence in the night with lights...

So what and why is the need to announce this? They won´t do that just for fun and if they are searching for someone/something, fine.

They were probably transmitting an OTA firmware update to Mindkontrol 3.0

because I think the news are very scared to report about the police in switzerland. The news only report word for word press releases put out by the police but never actually independently report about the police

I had the same 10 years ago in Thalwil. A helicopter circled at about 11pm for 20 minutes. Phoned the police and they advised they were looking for someone with problems who has escaped from an institution and apologized for the disturbance.

The papers had more pressing matters to report...

every article about police action is literally word for work press release by the police. That is not news reporting...

Maybe change the newspaper? There is effective reporting on the police, army, whatever

Depends what news source you use. If you're looking at 20 min or similar free news then you're going to get word for word press releases, word for word Reuters news or word for word Twitter/Facebook updates. That's the nature of these things.

You pay your money, you make your choice. If you find your newspaper unsatisfactory, then change to another.

Who exactly do you think news media are financed? Do you really think news papers, especially the size of most Swiss papers, are rolling in money and can afford to pay reporters to go check out your helicopter problem.

Absolutely. And I find that in Switzerland people are generally much better informed when it comes to local politics and affairs than they were back in the UK.

I guess this has something to do with direct democracy, and local councils actually having real powers, but also with the press reporting on these affairs in a serious and continuous manner.

more because swiss are simple minded and the villages are small so gossip news travels fast. But seriously swiss generally have no idea of what is going on in the world they live in their own reality.

That is not true. I have done successfully several times - in different places. It didn't go public though. But I had no desire for it to go public, putting them in place and making them realize it can be done was enough for me.
