Naturalization, anybody else get the letter?

I received a letter, apparently signed by Zürich's major, Corinne Mauch, extolling the advantages of naturalizsation and seeing that I had been living here for so long, encouraging me to get in touch and initiate the process. I very much like the gesture. But i was also surprised as from all I've heard the naturalization thing was all about you having to take the initiative. I never realized they actively reached out and encouraged people.

Did anybody else get this letter?

Just out of interest - long-term resident also - how long have you lived here?

Wait until you get the SVP invitation to join the party after you become a citizen. I'm not joking!!!

Sounds reasonable: first thing you do when you're let into the treehouse is to pull the ladder up behind you!

I understand you dont actually need to he a citizen to join the SVP.

There is at least one immigrant community here in Switzerland who regularly have Blocher as guest speaker at their events.

And I bet if they didn't invite you, there would also be people pointing an accusing finger and shouting racism.

So they get condemned both ways?

Re: Naturalization, anybody else get the letter?

It's sad, really, but the most outrageously racist social workers I had to deal with when I was working with refugees were almost always immigrants themselves.

The indigenous ones just tended to be a bit dim and fluffy: "Here money. For bus. [mime driving bus] Give money driver. [Guardian-reader cocked head and smile]"

Their first-generation counterparts would come out with gems like: "I made it here without support from do-gooders and busybodies like you. Don't know why they can't."

"Um, he's fifteen and his family are all dead, but thank you for your input."

Twats.

Though I hear the SVP throw some very good parties.

I want dirty thieving auslanders in this country! But then, I suppose I would. I'm one of them. Got my interview in two weeks.

Don't know when that was but it still is like that .... every darn point you mentioned. Only difference: By now it's not sad but depressing.
Oh and the indigenous ones you mentioned don't consider themselves SVP. They talk like it, act like it but they say they're left and broad-gauged.
