Re: Women Fight (for) Freedom - Frauen erkämpfen Freiheit Zurich 10 March

I have seen more graffiti approaching Zurich train station.
Unauthorised - ok, that's not by the book, but the disorder caused is nothing compared with London 2011 demonstrations. There was no fire, no flares, no fights, no bottles flying around. Quite civil.

What’s the source of the video? Ed DevilDog? (That was the YouTube user at the end).

What’s the point of showing it?

Because the op and youtube user are one and the same? Looks like the OP got lucky with his camera yesterday.

A sad day for women - there is a long way to go on all continents, on many differing levels, but this is not the way to do it.

I'm not so sure. These ladies have gone down in history as heroes for their protestin'

I'm betting those cheeky minxes didn't get permission for their demo, either.

So what was the demonstration about? Doesn’t Switzerland already have a law on harassment?

Am very well aware of this . And have always been involved.

Luckily times have changed (changing) since then.

The general feeling in Switzerland among women actually saddens me, as I feel that it is in retrograde. I have always been a solid supporter of the lack of female rights across the globe, as well as in CH in fact.

But I do not believe, based on current information, that this was a demo intended to bring attention to womens rights in Switzerland.

The demo should have been clearly organised, in order to ensure that the correct message was communicated. I currently doubt that there is anyone who can currently contribute in info. to either the purpose of the demo, nor the justification of graffiti throughout Zürich.

According to the article linked upthread, the demonstration was organized by a group called Frauenbündnis Zürich. Another group, Revolutionäre Jugend Zürich also took part.

I won't link their websites, one can google their press statement following the demo and form one's own opinion.

But to the OP:

International Women's Day is celebrated by many groups, via many activities. Most legit and peaceful. The 'movement' is far from monolithic. One cannot say that the groups behind this demo represent the mainstream, nor even anyone other than themselves and their own specific viewpoint.

Ah! I remember the "castrate, mutilate, xxxxxate*" marches in Manchester in the eighties.

I bet they're all married to stockbrokers in Hertfordshire by now...

* I can't remember the third bit of the chant. Anyone else remember?

It was either copulate or perissodactylate.

Comparing first wave feminists with fourth wave feminists seems a bit of a stretch.
