126 Zürich Gemeindes vote on their Executive today

Just looking at early results and surprised by the lack of interest.
Some Gemeindes have a voter turnout of under 20%.

It is surprising that some of the even weirder politicians manage to fail to be voted in with such a low barrier to exceed!

Re: 126 Zürich Gemeindes vote on their Executive today

Just a guess, but maybe a lot of people don't vote because they are happy with how things are and don't feel the need. Turnout for local elections is also abysmal in the USA. Last time they voted for mayor in my hometown, there were fewer than 1,000 votes cast among a population of about 12,000.

Re: 126 Zürich Gemeindes vote on their Executive today

Swiss newspapers are claiming the results of this vote are a massacre for the SVP.

I call it the Trump effect! Contrary to Trump, Blocher has been very quiet in recent months and last month withdrew from SVP leadership group.

Blocker is past it, he is having difficulty keeping a train of thought.... it was evident in some of his last public appearances.

Just google "Die SVP ist in urbanen Gebieten nicht mehr gefragt" or "Jetzt ist es ein Megatrend: SVP verliert, Linke legt zu" but the results are mostly all behind paywalls.

Basically they say the SVP has 16% fewer seats than in 2014, whereas SP has gained 8% and now has more seats than the SVP in the Zürich Gemeindes.

Blocher seems to be fully withdrawing.

It was announced today he is selling the Basler Zeitung to TAMedia.

Problem for SVP is he was a very strong character but never groomed a successor.

There is, of course, his daughter Magdalena Martullo-Blocher but she does not seem to have the same interest in political strategy. She was in the Nationalrat since 2015 and is also a SVP Vice-president.
Nevertheless I have not seen her really generating and pushing new strategies. She is interested importing more electricity and in cutting regulations but nothing really major.
