On the one side we have nearly 5 million people that were sufficiently interested to complete a survey and of whom 80% wanted permanent summer time.

On the other side we have the EF's current resident grouch, Omtatsat.

Slight imbalance maybe? How about you just get up 1 hour later to compensate and leave the vast majority to enjoy their evening daylight.
And most EF-ers will check EF early in the morning then.

"Normal time" in Switzerland is pretty much the same as the current summer time in Switzerland.

Tom
I think you're wrong here, the original time is today's wintertime.

There are over 500 million people in the EU so dont talk about a miserable survey of 8 million! Means nothing. They were paid anyhow to say yes.

Its 0700 and its light. So great. And there are those that want to sabotage this! Fight the EU mafia
So 2 reasons to welcome permanent summer time. Almost everyone wants it AND it pisses Omtatsat off

I am absolutely not surprised that my posting and your reference to it have no connection to each other at all.

Lugano being 9 degrees east means that we are 36 minutes ahead of GMT, so it's a toss up, half an hour wrong in either case.

Geneva being 6 degrees east means that it is only 24 minutes ahead of GMT, even worse and really should be on GMT time.

Bern is 29.8 minutes ahead of GMT, and thus should also be in the same timezone as London.

Thus, summertime is closer to solar time in Switzerland (on average).

I know why you did not mention Zurich. As Zurich is boss.

You've got your times mixed up there. Astronomically London, by definition (overhead sun at noon), should be on GMT. Therefore on your argument Switzerland should be on either GMT or GMT plus 1 so either on UK winter time or CH winter time. CH summer time is always at least 1 hour ahead.

OTOH the world doesn't live according to astronomical time any more. Apart from omtatsat.

Almost true.

It has to be fair trade, organically sourced, suitable for vegans, gluten and lactose free astronomical time

I love turning the clocks back so that's it's light when I get up in the morning. There are those people who choose darkness over light. And its not dark in Switzerland at 4pm. More fake news! The sun sets at 5pm!

Weirdest light this morning. Thin layer of fog is giving everywhere an odd yellow hue.
