Vegetables cause flautlence, meat less so.

Methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Cows are much more flatulent than any human on veggies.

Would you be shocked to hear that cow belching has more impact on global warming than cow farting? It's due to enteric fermentation.

Whether we have have a new ice age or whether we get fried to a crisp has really nothing to do with what we are doing. Its out of our hands. Its just that egotistical politicians are using this fear to line their pockets!

I reckon it's all a plot to distract us from what's really going on.

I'm sure I read in New Scientist a few years ago that global warming could result in Europe getting colder and the alpine glaciers coming back. While North America burns.

The Ice Age has definitely started here...in my marriage anyway!

Has anyone thought that regardless of whether the EU and US adopt more environmentally better standards, you still have China and India with which to contend - who are decidedly NOT eco friendly? Not to mention, Indonesia , Malaysia - and the list goes on. From a population standpoint, China and India are the most egregious offenders. And my view is, they could care less...

You could say the same about US vs Europe, Europe is twice as fuel/CO2 efficient when measured by GDP output.

Alas fingerpointing and placing blame won't get us anywhere.

Not sure about China, they have in the last decade or two lifted 800 million people out of poverty. At the same time they are investing heavily in infrastructure and education and are moving away from the reliance of fossil fuels to power their economy. Also China is developing green technology at a pace that "The West" can only dream about. They are not there quite yet but as our leaders are content to make lip-service to calm the plebs about going green the Chinese are doing it without hindrance by "special groups" and they are going to lead the world.

Switzerland is so small, it's strange that it would be located just to this area...

No-one said climate change is just restricted to here . Only talking about the effects of it here - which are very visible if you bother to look.

It is very difficult to quantify the causes and effects of climate change in Switzerland as these are different in every canton.

This May is looking like it’ll be the coldest on record in Switzerland.

Just sayin.

IF it actually happens like that (and it's far too soon to say), so what. It's called weather, not climate. How about the almost unbroken run of above average and numerous high temperature record months in recent years?

Here's the CH climate picture.

Re: In Switzerland, climate change is highly visible

What I find interesting though, lets make a simple (electrical) model of this whole climate stuff. Energy coming in from the sun can be modelled by a current source, feeding a large capacitor (modeling earths heat capacity) and a parallel resistor (modeling the energy loss into space). The occurring voltage is the temperature. The current has a sine wave shape, with a once a year cycle.

What greenhouse gasses are doing is increasing the resistor. This not only changes the temperature amplitude (i.e. it gets warmer but also larger summer-winter differences) but it also changes the RC time constant. Effect of this is that the peak of summer temperatures and the valley of winter temperatures move towards later months.

And this move towards later in the year for both summer and winter fits very well with my (47 year) experience....

It would be interesting to see whether earths warming comes from an increased resistance (the greenhouse gasses) or an increased current (more energy coming in from the sun, either sunspots or slow periodic shifts in sun-earth distance etc etc)
