as the permafrost melts, whole villages are threatened by massive rock falls - it's only a matter of time. There are parts of the Alps where I would NOT currently buy a house, for sure.

Wrong. Most result from glaciation during the last ice age and the subsequent warming and consequential melting of the glaciers. Cooling of the climate brought the ice, warming melted it again.

But the pace of the warming today is MUCH faster than ever seen then.

one example

"The Himalayan mountain range and Tibetan plateau have formed as a result of the collision between the Indian Plate and Eurasian Plate which began 50 million years ago and continues today. The African and Eurasian plates collide in the Alps. The African plate has been moving northwards over the last 130 million years and is pushing against the Eurasian continent. The rocks are deformed and folded by the immense pressure and the Alps are still uplifting today by one to two millimetres per year."
