First of all: My French is of the level of an unborn child.

I assume they stole some vehicles, used those to block the transport to be able to rob it and burned the vehicles when leaving the scene.

Re: Incident in Mont-sur-Lausanne

My question was not about understanding the French text, that's why we have Google Translate... I meant to ask in general, what else you can expect to come? Such events are not supposed to happen in Switzerland.

Where does this false sense of "Switzerland is so safe" and "such things don't happen here" come from?

And a couple of burned out cars after having robbed a money transport is nothing new in Western Europa, heck 20 years ago they even used rocket launcher alongside.

Why not? On one occasion I saw someone shot death in Zurich by the police and it was ruled illegal!

Re: Incident in Mont-sur-Lausanne

About a year ago same thing including burning the car down happened in that neighbourhood, so not really a surprise it happened again.

Could stem from the fact that Switzerland is (compared to most countries in the world) among the countries with the lowest violent criminality rates. Just a quick desk research shows that Switzerland ranks 182nd (out of 193 countries) for Murder rate per million people (source: www.nationmaster.com and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime). Data for that is from 2010...could be different now. But the same sentiment is reflected in the more recent OECD "Better life" index, with Switzerland ranking 4th (after Slovenia, Iceland and Norway).

Other similar data from the UN: serious assaults (rank 65 out of 79), kidnapping (rank 56 out of 69), and robbery (rank 44 out of 83). Lots more stats in there.

Having lived in 5 countries in 3 continents, I'd say I share some of the feeling that Switzerland IS safer than most places.

Re: Incident in Mont-sur-Lausanne

This happened a year ago as well, in exactly the same industrial zone, targeting the same kind of transport with the same company.

For now, an investigation is jointly conducted by the judicial police of France (Annecy) and Switzerland. The burned car, which served for a robbery in Switzerland, could have been one of the vehicles involved in the attack on the van of a private fund transfer company, which took place in the canton of Vaud, in Mont-sur-Lausanne, around 00:30, on the night of Wednesday 19 to Thursday 20 June.
