Just because some people use existing words for other than their original meaning does not mean that everyone does or should.

Hell, US, UK, AUS, etc. can't even agree on the meaning of many words.

Glad to know about this--how awful! I'm definitely not supporting their chocolate anymore...

Plaque milk or dark chocolate with whole almonds, they make the best tasting

I buy their chocolate because I like it and they are good at it. I don't have him as my social friend, never will and the fact that he looks like an asshole has nothing to do with his ability to produce chocolate.

I recently bought some for my parents, after a rather long time of not buying any (due to lack of opportunity).

The one with three different kinds of nuts is truly terrific, IMO.

I don't think I've ever had any. But with the rave reviews, I think I'll have to try some.

Funny that such a conservative store offered you the opportunity to lick three different kinds of nuts

I'm posting all this because the part of me that is about respect agrees 100% with Rufus and pflag, that ABSOLUTELY, do not slap a label on anyone that can be felt by them to be offensive, while the linquistically interested part, on the other hand, is amazed, and fascinated by the divergence of acceptable usage between the experience of Rufus and those she knows (in the UK) and pflag (which I think is in the USA) and the usage by fels, pinkcross, my friends here who call themselves queer, and me (in Switzerland).

Thank you, learnt something today. Will definitely be much more careful when next I venture into an English-speaking country.
Doropfiz, I know some American gay people who call themselves queers. They also use that long term ( LGBTQ+), alternatively. I guess both are "correct".
I don't call anyone anything unless they specifically tell me to do so. I don't assume anyone's sexuality, religion (unless it's evident), ethnicity or anything else. If relevant for the context, people like to talk more about themselves, about their background etc. I may ask where do you come from, but that's a totally different thing and a good opportunity to spark a conversation. Even so, I never point out the negative things I heard of someone's country or articles from Daily Mail etc...Oh, other than that, I don't see the need to use the word "queer" in any context tbh., again, unless specifically asked so.
I have noticed that the more people want to appear least offensive and friendly*, the less they achieve this thing.
*friendly in a weird way I would say.

Could you post contact details, please?
.
I am sorry I didn't have much time to look for those churches that I noticed were more welcoming or inclusive, or whatever the term would be. I discovered that thing last year, when I was looking for a "nice" church (yes, I know how that looks like) to listen to some good sermons. I wanted to take my elder daughter to church and didn't want to start all things religious on the wrong foot. We ended up going to some concerts in the Reformed Church from our town, music can always transmit much more at her age. The little one is not yet interested in these things.

My advice is, look on the internet. Every church has a site these days, pastors/priests give their contact details, your friends can simply write and ask. It cannot hurt to know right from the source so to speak. It takes some patience maybe, but I really hope they'll find what they are looking for.

...................................

Btw, This is NOT an invitation to further derail the thread with other debates on the "correctness" of other terms and people. Please, those who read this try to be respectful and not to take my post as an invitation to bashing.

Personally, I will not engage in any discussion that involves diminishing and dehumanising various groups.
Thank you.

I guess it's "ask" in this context. Or rather, kindly ask. When I wrote my post I was under the impression they're interchangeable - of course they're not. Sorry for my mistake, haven't had my second cup coffee and all that.

I think I am getting burnt on milk/cream...feels like it dilutes the real deal.

In anything, really, choc, coffee, tea, etc.

Since Swissotter posted that good link from pflag (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), I went over to look.....
and here is Susan Cottrell's TED Talk about what it can mean to be on the receiving end of "anti-gay", and what can happen to young people who come out, and to their parents in anti-gay churches...

https://youtu.be/rP01bH9Ljf4
"When Evangelical Christian mom Susan Cottrell’s daughter came out, she faced an impossible choice: her LGBTQ child or her non-affirming church. In this heartwarming talk, Susan explains why she chose her LGBTQ child and how she fights for progress inside the Christian Church.

Susan Cottrell is a prominent voice for faith parents of LGBTQI children. She is an international speaker, acclaimed author, and public theologian with a Masters in Theological Studies.

After spending 25 years in the Evangelical church, she founded FreedHearts to champion the LGBTQI community and their families.

She served as the Vice-President of PFLAG Austin (Texas) and was endorsed by The Human Rights Campaign and The Gay Christian Network.

She has five children, two of whom are in the LGBTQI community, with her husband of 30 years, Rob."

The 2 posters from above can't be bothered with such nonsense, they want to turn this thread into "rave reviews for Läderach".

I'd say a "balanced view".
