I could have agreed on this one had I not seen countless times (on this forum only) that exactly those who claim they're only in favour of freedom of speech and diversity, are also the first ones to be up in their arms and extremely vocal and mean at the first attempts of opposition. Even kind, civil and polite, articulated opposition.

Do what you preach, as they say. When will you start to develop a thick skin and not care so much of what other people say or do?
You do realise you’re arguing against a point that hasn’t been made, right?

I'm sorry, I haven't replied to you. Taking my post out of the context and twisting it as you wish - bad etiquette. But I see you have your audience (however small), so suit yourself. I think your post exemplifies the best what have you just written.
And that's exactly the problem with EF, accusing others of what oneself is doing. I'll not explain my post again because it was pretty clear to whom it was addressed and what it meant.

Greenmount.....

You say this quite often in your posts. It's rather annoying.

It might be, but it's true. Not sure how often I have said it though, probably quite often lately because IMO it seems people forget what they have been arguing for.

Hmmm.... perhaps a thicker skin would help. (Now where did I hear that one before?)

Seriously, when you feel that EF really annoys the hell out of you, it's time to step away, breathe and find a place that brings you positive energy.

From other people first, not me. I actually just replied to someone who mentioned "thick skin", it's not my style to ask anyone to grow it in order to win an argument.

No, EF doesn't really annoy me. But if you think some posters are annoying, I guess I can recommend the same to you.

I am sorry but this is called having a different opinion.

Has nothing to do with etiquette and if you wish for identical opinions, why not invite a couple of same minded friends for tea.

I value the difference in opinions, of course that everyone here is posting from different perspective and context. Take it as an invitation to look into their context and try to see their point of view?

Why should not people agree with somebody else? Do you need to state every time to people that they can "suit themselves"? Of course they can and they do not need anyone's permission.

I think your laments would be easier to understand if they were less accusatory. You are a part of EF, btw. So anytime you make an accusatory comment about EF, the tone has gone down.

I think for progress we need a bit more...positivity? So people actually want to exchange. They will always choose who merits their attention and who does not. Maybe I am naieve, though.

The context was replying to red banner though, and it was obviously meant to point out that everyone can say the same things. More like a tongue in cheek comment, can't believe I have to explain that.

Freedom means accepting diversity (of thought) and also developing a bit of a thick skin so you don't revert to demanding elimination whenever you are 'offended'.

Seriously, if some of you get annoyed by a few posters, you can always take a break both from moderating and/or from contributing here. See what I did here?

You might want to think about posting tongue in cheek comments. They don't always come across clearly.

And this smacks of policing, no? Or have I misinterpreted? Greenmount has her opinion and yet she... shouldn't? ... share it? As for your last paragraph, I'm interested in an exchange of meaning. Maybe that makes me naive too?

It is indeed difficult to have a proper conversation when folk will not converse!

You'll have to buy Laderach then...

Indeed. (or they would - but not really the kind of conversation I would like to have)
As for Laderach...I never bought too much, why should I start now. I agree with those who say it's a good chocolate, but have eaten good stuff elsewhere too. I wouldn't start to develop an addiction right after this discussion...lol. You know what I crave - home made chocolate. It has a different taste, it reminds me of childhood.

Quite backward ideas but where do you draw the line for such moral dilemmas?

Anyone on the forum who decided not buy Apple products because of Foxconn labor conditions or not to buy a Volkswagen product because of the environmental scam?
I decided to boycott Chinese goods after seeing what they do with the Chinese Muslims in the concentration camps of Xinjiang. You should also boycott all Chinese produced goods
