So can anybody explain me how I should fuel my car and advise on a phone produced in human conditions?

No - but I can give you the name of someone who will tell you how your wife and daughter should dress, get you some black market cheap labour, and beat your children.
As a bonus, he owns a chocolate factory but he ain't no Willy Wonka.

It was actually a serious question. The guy is an easy target because it's a non-essential product from a company that most of us don't buy anyway. I sincerely wonder how people look at buying products from companies that do similar or way worse things.

Bonus dilemma: imagine you have a candidate with similar beliefs as the chocolate guy as a candidate in a job interview. what do you do?

You'd need to judge if you believed it would affect his work. You may also need to consider whether he'd fit in with his prospective colleagues.

I'd say anyone bringing up their religious beliefs in a job interview is a bit daft in any case.

1. How would you know in the first place?

2. If you have to ask you are probably in contravention of some kind of employment law anyway, plus I'd have to ask myself WTF is wrong with someone who asks about that kind of thing in a job interview anyway.

Sorry, but that's just not relevant, whichever way your views lie.

Mr. Laderach clearly makes good chocolate, so clearly his beliefs don't affect his work. And yet, we judge him not based on the quality of his work, but on the different worldviews we have

Because people want to see him unsuccessful and fail.

Because in their eyes that will help human rights.

Sigh. Nobody has asked that he be sanctioned by his work, have they? He seems to be able to keep his prejudices under wraps at work.

Sigh. People would prefer their money wasn't spent on promoting fundamentalist Christian dogma, and attempting to get it written into law.

Nobody gives a toss how successful or otherwise he is, they just don't want to fund a nutty organization he's involved with.

I don't see how this is so tricky to grasp.

But of course he's an easy target. Not only for that. However, that doesn't change that his views on homosexuality and women rights are abhorrent imo or terribly outdated in other people's opinion. Would I choose to work with this guy? No. Would I hire someone like him? Depends. I agree with StirB on this one.

To be fair Willy Wonka did murder 4 kids in his factory.

One level of abstraction too far to travel?

If he was an employee or even just CEO, that might wash, but as owner I'm afraid your money is flowing into his coffers, whether you deliberately cover your eyes or not.

Shaming people for buying chocolate and pushing a good Swiss company to a bunkrupcy..in the name of human rights?

Is a leap of abstraction that people just won't do. The opposite.

One can quantify it actually pretty well. I bet it raised his sales.

The campaigning is counterproductive. It pushes supporters buy more of his chocolate. People eat his chocolate to show they got freedom to snack on whatever here without being shamed.

It honestly is really good chocolate. The campaign would be more successful if he sucked if you can pardon my language.

But he's gotta do something well there in his company and it's not accidental. Let customers return from shame, guilt and whatever isn't working to decide for themselves if the chocolate is worth the price tag. His conviction is another matter and should be, imho, addressed differently.

Thanks. It's childish. At the end of the day everyone is free to do whatever they see fit with their money. Obviously not everyone should feel compelled to "boycott" this company in particular but that isn't the point for a very long time...

Remind me again of what's the point in all these EF discussions. I'll call it the joyful contrarian's corner.
