Voting - Canton BE

Hi everybody, I have a quick question for those who vote in the Canton of Bern.

I am excited to vote for the first time (by post) and while reading the instructions on how to do it, I read that some (most according to ch.ch) cantons provide a polling card or voter identification card. It seems to require a signature prior to being returned with the ballot paper.

I don't seem to have one so is this standard for Bern or am I missing some paperwork?

FS.

There is a card included in the voting pack that you need to sign and return it along with your vote as instructed.

In my canton the address card with your address on it is also the return address card and the signature card for postal voting.

In our village the enclosed card signatures are checked against the signatures on file. One time a vote wasn’t counted because the submitter wrote the wrong birthdate. Or ... ??

OK, thanks everybody. I don't seem to have anything like that in my envelope - and nothing with the return address on it so it looks like I'll need to contact the gemeinde and ask them to post me one out.

Thanks again....

It’s not on the back of the part that has your postal address on?

Your location says UK. Might be a bit difficult to get a new voter ID card as the instruction for the City of Bern says you must get a new on in person:

Quote:

Stimmrechtsausweis

Adress: Erlacherhof/Junkerngasse 47

That's kind of strange. How did the letter reach you? How was your letter addressed?

Normally the voter ID card has not only a return address but also your own address, and the address is visible through the window of the envelope. In addition the envelope in which the material was send can also be used for return the ballot. To send it back you simply swap the voter ID card such that the return address is visible in the window of the envelop, close it, post it (in some communes the envelope is even pre-paid), done.

Actually, you know what....you're all correct. I can't find the slip with my address on it so....yup, you guessed it.......looks like I've recycled it in my excitement to vote.

Muppet.

It is the first time I've been able to vote and I'm disappointed, but I'll know for next time. Thanks for all your help everybody - this is a great forum and so much information!

I don't see why a hand-written form wouldn't be acceptable. As long as it contains the correct information. Your name, address, date of birth, signature.

It is worth a try ...

Won't be accepted and the vote will be void. The signature must be on the voter ID card (Stimmrechtsausweis). A hand written form is not a Stimmrechtsausweis.

See the canton Bern law about the political rights: https://www.belex.sites.be.ch/fronte...1734?locale=de

The correct thing is to find the voter ID card or get a new one which might need a trip to the nearest consulate or to the embassy: https://www.eda.admin.ch/eda/de/home...ritannien.html

How long have you been in Switzerland??? No a chance, the first step in preventing voter fraud is to require the official id be returned with the voting papers.
