This is from the Daily Mail so it must be a conspiracy theory? | Quote: | | | | Vladimir Putin personally ordered a top secret spy operation to help a 'mentally unstable' Donald Trump win the 2016 election, according to leaked documents believed to be from the Kremlin.
The Russian strongman held a meeting with his spy chiefs and senior ministers in January 2016 where they agreed to support Trump in order to achieve Moscow's objectives of sowing 'social turmoil' in the US, the papers suggest.
A decree bearing Putin's signature ordered Russia's three agencies to find practical ways to support the then-Republican frontrunner, according to The Guardian who have seen the documents.
The documents also allude to compromising material the Kremlin holds on Trump from an earlier visit to Moscow. | | | | | LOL!
Just when you thought the Russian thing was dead and buried.

Just when you thought the Russian thing was dead and buried. | | | | | No longer just the Daily Mail but this conspiracy theory has now been picked up by the Guardian, NY Times, Washington Post, Forbes, &&& although ignored by CNN so casting doubt on the veracity.
Trump and Putin both issued separate statements denying the report.
Trump seemed especially upset by the documents including a psychological assessment describing Trump as an “impulsive, mentally unstable and unbalanced individual who suffers from an inferiority complex.”

I know this because my cousin's stepsister's ex-husband's mother's cousin's boyfriend has a youtube channel about it.

Even if we did know or could find out . It’d probably be a shrug and who cares moment .
Anybody who could in any way have been involved is probably dead by now .
Personally I don’t see why people get passionate about this question .

Because it was a seminal moment in many people's lives. Not because the commonplace, "where were you when JFK was shot" but because it made many Americans suspect for the first time that their own government is/was not "here to help." | Quote: | | | | | This exactly .

America was never attacked and tens of thousands of American soldiers were sent to their deaths in a matter that didn’t concern the safety of America .
All over an incident that was in all probability engineered to provide an excuse. Like filling a passenger liner with armaments, anouncing the fact, and then sending it unescorted through an area in which German submarines were known to operate . And without informing the passengers that they were being used as human bait .
I think that was the point that American politics lost ist innocence and that people should have realized the government was not serving their best interests any more .

It found that JFK had far more impact because it happened in real time for most Americans, whereas with 9/11, the west coast was still asleep.

Only one person went to prison, Oliver North, and that didn't keep him from becoming NRA president not that long ago. If anything, that prison sentence may well be a label of honor in certain circles.

You may be right about "American politics lost innocence" with entry into WWI. However, wrt the public perception of politics, I think the US population was quite positive about "our boys being over there" and that it was saving the world in WWI and (especially) WWII (some nuance to this, but the public was mostly behind the war effort).
But with Eisenhower's farewell address in Jan. '61, the public heard strong words about something being amiss and with Kennedy's assassination just a few yrs later, the public was forced to look at things that it still is having a hard time acknowledging. And it affected the public immensely. | Quote: | | | | | You could ask the same about the First World War for example . But the fact that the public supported WW1 really only reflects the degree to which the propaganda was a success.
