I was listening to the announcement and can confirm that it was extended to the 26th of April.

Re: SVP trying to end the lock down after the 19th of April.

What I find strange is that they said, there is no immunity with corona = when you had it, you can get it again = vaccination won't work.
Now they talk completely differently.

When did the find out immunity can be reached and who did?

Definitely confirmed.

"Measures to combat the coronavirus outbreak have been extended by one week, until 26 April. They will be gradually relaxed before the end of April. The Federal Council will decide on the scenario for ending the crisis next week.

The measures to combat the coronavirus epidemic are well implemented and are showing effects, he said on Wednesday. In view of epidemiological developments and scientific recommendations, the government is nevertheless extending the measures.

But these will be gradually relaxed with all due caution before the end of April. It will decide on the course of action at its April 16 session.

The criteria for relaxation will depend on the number of new infections, hospitalizations and deaths. The way in which social and hygiene measures are respected and how gatherings of people are avoided will also be decisive.

Switzerland's strategy will have to be coordinated with that of other countries. Business and the scientific community will have to be involved. In addition, sufficient human and material resources must be made available for the detection and follow-up of contacts."

Hi all,

SVP (and the kanton of Luzern) is actively trying to gradually end the lock down after the 19th of April.

https://www.20min.ch/schweiz/news/st...rden--22714574

Apparently the government won't make a decision and/or announcement until just a few days prior, which I think isn't fair for parents and employers to prepare accordingly. Some colleagues of mine have been told that their school won't open until May, others have heard nothing.

What do you think about reopening after 19th of April? I feel it is far too soon and we will have to soon close up again, like what is happening in Japan.
Yes the SVP ( Blocker ) attacked Berset for his bungling and lies in the whole crisis

Sorry, heard it on the radio and SRF. It was Ms. Sommaruga who has made the announcement.

Re: SVP trying to end the lock down after the 19th of April.

It's weird the SVP/UDC is trying to cut short the time of lock down. It is the UDC who were filming at the tourist spots near here- ranting about all the 'foreigners' coming to visit (meaning those from Swiss German Kantons lol, and those from nearby France...) and taking great delight in doing so. (shall I groan myself Tom, to save you the trouble ).

Lol oh dear.

It's funny, I think socialist types are disproportionately likely to encourage a long lockdown and ignore it themselves (Kinnocks I'm looking at you, Londoners in general), whilst right wingers are more likely to encourage people not to panic and get back to work ASAP and then take a very conservative approach themselves. I'm no exception.

Doubtless the SVP will find a way to blame foreigners

The correct answer is that this is not known yet, not yes nor no.

Reports about "reinfection" that came from China are doubted as they could be just failed (false negative) tests in between the positive ones.
Experts say that it's unlikely (but not 100% impossible).
However the viral RNA is mutating, so it is not impossible that you go over one strain, yet fall ill afterwards from another one - but only if the mutations in between are powerful enough that the immune system would not "recognize" it and sort it out.

Re: SVP trying to end the lock down after the 19th of April.

Swiss Federal Council press conference 08. April 2020
  • Bundespräsidentin Simonetta Sommaruga, Vorsteherin Eidgenössisches Departement für Umwelt, Verkehr, Energie und Kommunikation (UVEK)
  • Bundesrat Alain Berset, Vorsteher Eidgenössisches Departement des Innern (EDI)
  • Bundesrat Guy Parmelin, Vorsteher Eidgenössisches Departement für Wirtschaft, Bildung und Forschung (WBF)

This part is about extending the date to 26th April, and about loosening the measures.

Bundespräsidentin Simonetta Sommaruga
The measures have shown success. The great majority of the population in Switzerland has understood the measures and their meaning, and has conformed to them, to reduce the risk of infection for themselves and for everyone else. This is a great achievement, and because they are working, there is no reason, now, to move away from these measures. On the contrary: we’re on the right way, but we have not yet reached the goal.

Many are asking: “How much longer, and when can we loosen the measures?”and the uncertainty about this is frustrating.
The Federal Council is aware that we need a perepceiv, dna soon.
Step by step. There will be ways to loosen the measures, on condition that the rules are still adhered to, namely keep 2m distance and the hygiene rules. And there, where we open, the protective concepts are still applied.

The Swiss Federal Council decided, in its meeting today, that:
  1. The current measures and state remain in force until 26th April 2020.
  2. The Health Department has been delegated the task of designing the concept of how the measures can be loosened, in steps.

The Swiss Federal Council will meet on 16th April 2020 to discuss this concept, with the intention to pronounce some certain degree of loosening of the measures before the end of the month of April.

The concept is not about setting “health” against “economy”. Our focus will continue to be on health of the population in general. This means that loosening of the measures will be done with the population’s health as the priority, while trying to keep the economic damages as low as possible.

Easter is before us. For many this means a few free days. Spring weather brings a good mood. Many people will still be working. Thank you to all of those. It is good to see how people are there for one another in hard times. It is good to see that the people of our country are able to cope in a time of crisis, and to face the future together. The Federal Council thanks you, from our hearts, for this show of solidarity.

The alarmist camp was running out of arguments for a few days now and sensible politicians are trying to get things back to normal ASAP. If I understood correctly, they will announce a more detailed plan of how the measures will be gradually relaxed already next week. Time to iron those shirts, the unexpected holiday is luckily coming to an end!

Without heard immunity there will always be a second wave of infections, it's not as if we can be in lock down indefinitely. Possibly Sweden has the answer & only isolates the old & people in poor health.
You don't understand the disease.
The elderly and those with underlying conditions have a higher mortality rate. A significant number of younger people in "good" health suffer a severe attack and some die. It is a very sick mentality (IMHO) that would sacrifice these people for the sake of the economy. The jury is out on the Swedish approach, time will tell.

Personally, I would like them to open up the shops again. I just spent around 100 CHFs on small items like screws and rawlplugs due to unavailbility and price gouging.

When I said indefinitely I did not mean a couple of months, but years many many years.
Let's not forget also that for some people, a few years may be the last years they have. The last days, months and weeks they get to see their children or grandchildren.

Lockdown is not without social and economic costs. Economic hardship also leads to deaths.
