From today's headlines:

"Lifting coronavirus lockdown measures too early could spark a "deadly resurgence" in infections, the World Health Organization chief has warned."

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-52248516

Whether the resurgence occurs is entirely to do with keeping the transmission ratio below 1, and not to do with the number of active cases. That's not to say the WHO are wrong - if you start to delockdown too early you leave yourself little time to react. We need long term behaviour at 0.8 or 0.9.

If it agrees with your narrative you are fine with bias. You seem rather slow today, several members clearly agreed with my post

My narrative? You're the Baronet of Bias If those members agreed with me I'd be slightly concerned. Just sayin'

Not slow, sugar. Largely disinterested and busy with Little and Littlest.

I am quite enjoying the social distancing. Ever since I got Swiss nationality, I can finally indulge in a national pastime.

My local real ale bar delivers. Ditto my friends who operate a micro brewery.

Re: SVP trying to end the lock down after the 19th of April.

Just wanted to remind everyone that, despite of what this thread's title might indicate, the lockdown in Switzerland continues till 26th of April.

I know most people here know, but I gathered that those who don't watch or read the news in any of the local languages are a bit lost.

The Swiss Federal Council's press conference, today 16th April 2020, will be at 15h15, here: https://www.admin.ch/gov/de/start.html
The extent to which the measures will be lifted, or not yet, will be set out.

Great. But, do you know about vaccines?. Which, less broad, area of science? I have a couple of friends with PhDs in the science fields. One is a Botanist the other an electrical engineer. Neither could really comment on the work of the other with any "real"authority. Both brilliant scientists. Neither know a thing about vaccines. They're both in favour of them. I just checked.

Clinical trial data is also very broad.

Of course there are no guarantees, either way.
Sorry just saw this. No, I don't. But you are asking the wrong question. You could understand the science behind vaccines well, but if you don't understand how clinical trials work, then you won't have the first idea about timescales.

Getting approval on that timescale is just totally unprecedented. Obviously anything can happen as we are in uncharted territory, but all i'm saying is that to rely on something that hasn't happened before is unwise. I hope it comes through, but we need to be ready to have years and years without a vaccine.

Everyone's saying this, not just me. It's not a controversial opinion.

I have no doubt. I have a basic understanding of clinical trials and time scales. My OH works in vaccines. I think I was querying which area of science your expertise is in. Broadly speaking. But less broad than All of Science.
