Aargau SVP National Councilor Andreas Glarner

Around a dozen young men and women completed their apprenticeship at the Aldi Perlen branch last week. The discounter printed their names in its company newspaper, which was distributed almost all over the country.
One was not happy about it: The Aargau SVP National Councilor Andreas Glarner immediately posted a photo of the names on Facebook on Monday evening. Because what stands out: Many of the names are of foreign origin.
Glarner doesn't like that.
Glarner told the news portal “ Nau.ch” that he wanted to show that we “are slowly becoming strangers in our own country”.

Glarner receiveg criticisms from all sides including from his own ranks: "Integration via apprenticeships and work is exactly the right way, much better than direct immigration into the welfare state, which does not bring about integration," commented the World Week editor-in-chief and SVP National Councilor Roger Köppel.
"These apprentices do a great job," he adds.

SVP usually complain that immigrants are a drain on Switzerland but now this idiot Glarner is complaining that they are integrating and working.

No sources as they are all in local language.

My wife's name is of foreign origin, despite her father (with the same surname) being a well known Swiss artist, about whom the RSI has made at least 4 documentaries (which we have).

Go figure.

Italian or French sounding names aren't the problem, it's the -ich -ski etc that is the eye sore

The Swiss do not make fun of their Lehrling graduates... no matter the heritage. Glarner, who must be pursuing his five minutes of fame, knows this as well.

Balkan lives...?

Are they a different race?

Anyway, it happened in Aargau and everything is possible there.

Not really. Take a closer look at any company's webpage - real estate, insurance, commerce, banking., literally every field of activity. They're obviously well integrated, there are fewer and fewer Swiss who have something against people of this heritage. Quite the contrary. "Balkan" names are the new Italians.

Re: Aargau SVP National Councilor Andreas Glarner

He had quite a 'colourful' wikipedia page and it seems he is pre-occupied with publishing private and confidential details of people to suit his needs in persecuting immigrants.

As well as being a member of far-right groups in Europe, he's also spent time in prison for company mismanagement after being acquitted of fraud.

He was probably checking the Aldi newsletter for the cheapest deals at the German discounter instead of only shopping at Migros and the local butcher like he probably pretends. Veey understandable that he got upset. What a clown.

I wonder if Andreas Glarner could not be taken to court for that - after all his action was public - and if so I sure hope someone will!

Nah, that could backfire. Imagine the outrage on social media "You can't say anything about anyone these days" etc etc "Thought police" blah blah.

I hope he'll just be ignored, taking him to court would make a martyr out of him.

He's been taken to court for similar actions in the past. Case were always dismissed. Something to do with free speech...

Well, the man does speak his heart: too many foreigners!

(I can vaguely see his point but wonder if he's aware that some jobs aren't or won't be done by the "natives"). Sure, keeping Switzerland for the Swiss is a sweet dream for some, however - impossible to do so unless they want to go back to the last century's fifth decade of economic development.

Probably the judge remembers vividly the "forbidden to dogs and Italians" sign on my establishments which could be found posted well into the early 70s

Unlikely. First-time offenders usually get "bedingt" (conditional? deferred?) jail sentences.

Contrary to ethnicity, nationality isn't protected by the anti-racism article 261bis. And you need to advertise or otherwise promote, with the intent to influence, the public. Merely stating an opinion ("I hate cisgendered people") usually isn't punishable, same with "we're getting overrun by foreigners".

Surely he's doing that merely by speaking publicly as a politician?

I don't see why being a politician would make a difference. Glarner may be trying to promote his position using his FB account, but he's not trying to influence others or call for their action (at least he doesn't meet the criteria), so that should be protected under freedom of opinion and expression thereof. "I don't like Kurds" is stating an opinion. "I don't like Kurds, let's do something about that vermin", if voiced in public, would most probably be punishable under §261bis.

This is a two-way street and the reason why the SP was able to use the Swastika flag in their campaign against the MassenEinwanderungsInitiative 5-6-7 years ago - they didn't propagate Nazi-ism, they were making a statement thus its use was legal.

That aside: Please define "politician".
Does it apply to parlamentarians only, and of which levels? Or is it anybody who's been elected by public vote, including members of the school council? And only while they hold office or beyond?
In my rating Blocher has been a politician since forever and will always be, without interruption. But he hasn't held any office since 2014. And what about the gap between Bundesrat and being elected again for the federal parliament?
