From a worker point of view, it becomes a "war between poor".
Also taxes will go up, particularly on middle/high income earners, to redistribute to those whose incomes have been cut by imported low-wage competition.

Re: CH - EU agreemeent on immigration at stake.

Brexit has clearly shown that a lot of immigration within short time is disturbing to the indigenous. CH politics could better do something before somebody exploits similar sentiments.
The FMOP is claimed to be an EU holy cow but certainly other ones have already fallen.

Please do not ignore the fact that despite the false propaganda the reality is for every year over the last thirty years there were far more non-EU migrants into the UK than from the EU.

I am sure those "few" people who voted Brexit for racist reasons will be disappointed that the number of new non-white faces will not decrease.

As Terry Smith said you can always recognise a professional by their ability to select a data range that suits their argument!

What, they won't build a wall at Calais now that the unnatural friendship with the French can be forgotten ?

While I understand the anti-immigration sentiment (I don't agree with it, but I understand it), I think they chose the wrong methods. Brexit or X-exit could have happened and we all could still be on friendly terms. Under the circumstances - never, Niemals, jamais.
Anyways, don't we have a couple of threads dedicated to the British? It's not everything about them (you) you know.

My wife is right wing for sure.

My question was if she knows it..

I was poking at some posters' certainty who said that voters vote for (opposing to their views, of course) be cause they don't know where they stand, politically.

Otherwise, if you share your political view with your partner it is nothing I'd criticise, it shows care and engagement both in your country and in your relationship.

Tbh, not sure if CV or missmanaged EU is a bigger threat to FMOP these days.

Re: CH - EU agreemeent on immigration at stake.

Maybe I missed it in the five pages of replies...but last time, didn't this vote to "control the border" get watered down to "jobs will be advertised in swiss job centres first"

and they're trying this AGAIN?!

do they not understand how guillotine clauses work?

Triggering the "guillotine clause" is the whole point.

We actually discuss such things, and we are on the same page.

And she's the one with all the refugees in her family history!

Why than pretending it is something else? Are you saying that promoters of this proposal are trying to trick their own countrymen? I could never identify myself as a part of such a political party.

Don´t pro Brexit voters prefer immigrants from Commonwealth countries to EU immigrants?

Apparently so. They are sick of EU Muslims bringing their Ray Guns and Muslamic Law and would much prefer immigrants to come from former colonies like Pakistan or Nigeria.

Nor could I.

I don't belong to any political party, and never have, they all suck.

(EU)-Usländers!

During an exhausting beer-lifting marathon with some work colleagues, one of them started talking about the brand new SVP initiative. Can't remember the exact phrasing he used, but it was something around the lines of: "Fork 'em usländers"

He then looks at me, starts laughing, and says: "Yeah, but you are a different kind of usländer, we need guys like you here (I work in IT). The others coming to clean or work in restaurants or abuse our social system are the ones that make me angry". Drunk bastard made a good point.

More than a political discussion about the initiative itself, I'd be very curious to read various opinions from both swiss people and EU/3rd "expats" regarding what kind of immigration does Switzerland really need.

PS: Why do anglosaxons call themselves expats? Is it just a fancy term for immigrant nowadays ?

Because they look at where they are from home, as if they were still there. And not from here, where they actually are.

The 'Fu** Ausländer but you are different' is typical here. My ex-husband used to get it about black people. I'm glad I was not with you at the beer-lifting event as it annoys me like hell!
While these people are entitled to their opinion they should at least stand up for it.

They'll find that they are in exactly the same situation as the UK post Brexit, if it goes through..... no Swiss people will want to clean or work in restaurants etc, just like in the UK no Brits want to work on the farms this summer.
