Swiss ID cards

It has just struck me that I have not seen any information about Swiss ID cards after Brexit.
Will they still be valid for trips to the UK or are passports only required?

They will still be valid.
Of course they will still be valid.

But whether or not the UK authorities will continue to accept European ID cards after 1 January 2021 is still to be determined.

Other than part of a hissy fit, I can't see any reason why an ID card wouldn't be acceptable as it has exactly the same information as a a passport on the scan band.

But I don't think ID cards can be used today for UK passport gates, you need your digital passport to use those.

Re: Swiss ID cards

Sorry, I should have been more specific. They will still be valid for entry into the UK. It has been agreed, but not yet ratified I'm told. I doubt this will change and they will still be valid.

As for e-gates, I'm not sure ID cards work in any of these. I'll stand corrected but entering Italy, Germany, Switzerland and the UK, I've never been able to use my ID, only a passport.

As far as I know the Swiss ID cards don't work with any e-gates, not even the Swiss ones.

They will still be valid [for entry into the UK].
Asking for a Friend: Based on what agreement is the Swiss ID (or other European ID) accepted. As far as I know UK is not part of the European Agreement on Regulations governing the Movement of Persons between Member States of the Council of Europe.

It misses the biometric information and might not meet the ICAO standards. On EU side there are upcoming changes to included the biometric information on the ID card and residence permits as well and make the compliant with ICAO specifications.
