Those bastards at admin.ch [Structure, links to laws changed]

Every X years some "bright" subjects which manage the admin.ch website, specially the collection of laws and regulations come up with this idea that they must restructure how the content can be found. The last time this happened they were at least so kind (after some enquires) to support the old, previous structure as well.

No it happened again. The structure has changed and all my nice links to the the particular articles or even law do no longer work.
And this even with there "promise": https://www.fedlex.admin.ch/en/faq/general/favorites

Sometimes sites are put online incomplete, only to minimize the time down. So, is it something that will take some days to be restored or gone for good?

Re: Those bastards at admin.ch [Structure, links to laws changed]

I'm afraid it's a systemic problem that has been around ever since computer systems were first introduced. Every now and then new blood comes along and decides it's time to "upgrade", regardless of whether or not there are actual problems that need addressing, and usually also regardless of whether anyone actually wants the new features.

Okay, I generalise, but I spent most of my career either fighting the idea of change for change's sake, which is almost a mantra for some ambitious developers, or more constructively ensuring complete backward compatibility when required new features were added. I found a great niche within Pharma whereby we had to validate our analysis environment and guarantee that results could be reproduced even ten or fifteen years later, with the latest version of the programs. Ahh, happy days... which sadly came to an end and effectively forced me into early retirement.

"If it ain't broke..." should be forcibly tattooed in brain of anyone entering the field of software development, in my view.

On top of that we should bash into every techi's brain "KEEP IT SIMPLE".
And then get rid of the most disruptive and useless force on the planet. Marketing!

They used to like to do this at the big N where I used to work but most people didn't notice as few used to read the regs etc anyway.

It's okay, aSitUS, we can live with your future 3 second delay of legal link delivery. Specially now that you told us that it's not you getting older.

Re: Those bastards at admin.ch [Structure, links to laws changed]

To be fair:
- the system works in all three official languages (English language versions are in limbo, and I gnash my teeth everytime I try to pull up the English version of something);
- there is already some additional functionality, namely you can choose to view the current version of the law as PDF, HTML or Word.

I expect that future functionality might even include the possibility of having a compare version between two dates... (admittedly of more interest to the legal profession than to the general public).

Re: Those bastards at admin.ch [Structure, links to laws changed]

One got used to a certain functionally and availability. Was certainly pissed that it was down a few nights ago and not even the PFDs wer working. The only new functionality is the Word files. But who needs those And why isn't it in the Office Open XML Format?

One thing which would the nice if they add a PDF of the original publications pdf the acts, so that there is no need to look them up in the archive.
