Sounds incredibly petty to fire him, the shame alone should be punishment enough. Allowance should be made for the fact that he is at home where lines have already become blurred.

Yea ... tell me about it. Some days like today, you don’t even turn the camera on because you don’t feel like changing or brushing your hair. I noticed while spaced out in a meeting today that everyone was silent & I didn’t know why, turns out they were waiting for me to answer a question.

I was mortified ... but this poor bastard. Seems a bit wrong to fire him, but perhaps it is good so he can claim RAV now, I would have wanted to quit straight away if I were him.

I know bankers are often thought to behave like that, but presumably such behaviour falls below minimum standard requirement even in Switzerland.

Some years ago I had a laptop that had a little cover that you could slide to block the camera. I wonder why that little device is not common anymore

I guess my sympathy stems from also being utterly fed up and demoralised after a year of this. Whatever gains in efficiency have now been overtaken by an abuse of the system and the fact that meetings span 14 hours a day in my case (07:30 to 22:00). The reason is its less efficient in the long term to align and move large organisations by phone.

I've blocked my time before 0900 and after 1700 to be request-only after my other half remarked, somewhat negatively, that I was working more now than a year ago.

Here is a question, if I am hosting a Zoom meeting at 9am. I already start the meeting at 8am, camera is on, recording to cloud is disabled. I have waiting room setup but no one is there as it is too early.

Now if I walk around in front of the camera getting ready for the meeting, could some Chinese tech guy potentially have access to that feed/video of me walking around?

Poor banker was isolated by COViD restrictions in home office, no girlfriend, no nightclubs, no going out hence in desperation, he “discharged” his emotions on screen.
