And they want you to buy propaganda material to distribute!

Tom
I suspect he doesn't really give a damn if you distribute it, as long as you buy it.

There are new parties poppin' up everywhere at all times. That is a healthy, democratic thing, so I like the fact that people have a choice. Instead of a two party bs system, or one party even more bs system. If people go for it or not is irrelevant for me, as long as they can choose on their own, after they do their homework. Or not.
I guess I'm thinking simpler. The fun part was that the antimask guy giving away stickers expected that people put an ugly sticker on nice BMWs and Audis I guess that the counterpart is that I have not seen anyone driving around a car with the windows covered of pro-mask posters. So, who are the crazy ones here?

On a second thought, I have not seen cars with stickers supporting any political party. SVP supporters are an exception, but they only place stickers on old beaters or farm vehicles, never on a nice car.

I was training, and a guy walked up to me and said that there was no need to wear the mask any more. I gave him a thumbs up and told him that I knew. He was not happy that I was wearing the mask by choice, he walked away angrily

Debates and new points of view can never be a bad thing.

And tbh I'm not exactly sure what it is these guys want or what they are about so I won't pass judgement.

Sometimes changed realities call for changes in political positions, and the entire lockdown thing has changed realities for many people and the old answers may no longer work if the questions have changed.

So actually I think the emergence of new political positions is not just understandable but also necessary.

But in this case I don't actually see much that is new but just a lot of stuff that is repackaged and trying to please everybody at the same time.

I may be mistaken of course. New political parties grow with the challenges they must overcome. But more typically they fail.

I saw an intense lady soliciting attention out in the open air here, telling people to put masks on. It was no longer mandatory, and she got really close to their uncovered faces, too. I think pandemics did have an effect on people's behavior. Some stuff is more acute. I am used to Central park madness or freedom in SF Castro, so I did not feel uncomfortable. But I could tell people were wigged out and too polite to tell her to not touch them, at least..

Axa - a place with gorgeous, expensive cars isn't exactly bumper stickers culture. I miss them, they can be hilarious. I am glad I don't have to drive at all here, though.

I am curious how fast new politics will pick up. Government has not lost much trust here, I reckon. Other places face more challenges.

The pandemic has brought out the missionary zeals on both sides.

I know a lady who has throughout the pandemic been criticizing the (Swiss) government saying they took too long to take decisions and they shouldn't be leaving stuff up to the cantons but there need to be strict laws mandated directly from above. No law was strict enough for her and she was washing her hands something like 20 times a day and saying anti-vaxxers need to be sent to prison and the army needs to be on the streets enforcing the mask mandate.

And before all this started she was perfectly normal.

And I think the zealots on both side antagonize one another and just lead to increasingly extreme positions.

Maybe she's the new perfectly normal and we just didn't get the memo yet.

I guess it's just an understandable response for some, we will probably see some more. Glad things are otherwise calm here, people are ok to say "we don't know yet" in the press instead of trying to figure everything out and change it next day, and aside of travelling restrictions and general cautiousness and common sense personally responsible protection - things seem as usual, quite stoic and not panicky. I keep foreign news channels to minimum, soccer raised my adrenaline enough

Re: Neue Volkspartei

Maybe this has to do with the fact how we've been in an autocratic society/culture until hmmm the 70ties ? (even after that but let's say 70ties)

In fact we as citizens, plebs, have been sort of 'free' for not even some 45 years in our whole existence , some 25 centuries .

And I remember even last year people would go on and give LOOONG philosophical diatribes about those 'bad muslims' who are wearing a veil .. or how there's sharia laws..then give lessons to people coming from some "commie countries" (they've been controlled and brainwashed) ...

And, there's a flu the same government that said, masks, gloves, are useless then says "yes wear it or else!" , people just love to obey authority and show how THEY ARE the good ones and would hate, snitch on , ask for those bad people to be burned... etc etc ) not any different than anything we dont know

Basically we're still indoctrinated even if we havent been..I guess though some collective memory or whoknowswhat

Did you just randomly make up these dates?

- various major constitutions granting individual freedom haven't changed for several hundred years (although to be fair it's a bit different if you're female or black); I don't think the 70s were particularly significant

- Human civilisation with structured government has been around for > 4000 years, humans significantly longer

Re: Neue Volkspartei

newtoswt, I did not make a study or submitted a dissertation on that topic )

This means I said this to describe how I see our recent history .. And what I said maybe it is not precise but it is pretty true (this can be argued of course)

The reason I said that is because prior to 1945 most states (I am talking about Europe) were police states even if most of us have some other vision of it ...

At the beginning of the 20th century or the 20ties,30ties, it was still very split who are the poor, working class and then the bourgeoisie and the aristorcrates. The poor were 95% of the population..and there was a dress code (a poor girl could not really wear a fancy dress and walk down the street) just as the bourgeois would not go out without the dress, hat, gloves . Public parks were not really public, it was reserved for the bourgoisie/aristocrates (maybe there's another word for them I cant recall it now) and poor people could not just go in. Only nannies and servants.. Same for travel , you could not travel to another city if with your ticket you didnt have a necessary approval .. I can go on about owning property, school and all that which was not 'free' or equal .. In fact, that same society just came out of the feudalism, which meant children from age of 6 were working on the field or in the mine .. and us the plebs , did not have any salary or holidays or sickies or anything like that .. often not even a penny for the work (16h at least) just some water and bread.

I can squeeze in the church in all this and how it played a huge role... and how you could not be free really but that would take too long.. hope you understand a bit what I mean about all this

And you're maybe referring to the US , Bill of rights and because of which the USA was considered as a cradle of liberty and later on, democracy..but that's also very tricky.

What parallel universe do you inhabit? That does not apply to the whole of Europe. The term 'police state' was first used to describe the Austrian Empire.

100yrs ago, my grandfather was a milkman with a horse and cart. That's elite? He later went working as a coal miner. Is that elite too?
