Re: Vote September 26th

First photo shows surrogate mothers as slaves. Heterosexuals already use surrogate mothers for their own reproductive issues. The argument doesn’t work.

Second photo: kids are being ordered. Again, this is an issue that is being pursued by heterosexual partners as well.

Third photo: shows a dead person. I don’t get it.

Odd, haven't seen any of that around here.

As you said, makes no sense, #1 and #2 apply to anyone with conception issues.

These are what I referenced before, using irrelevant material against the yes campaign.

Re: Vote September 26th

There are so few adoptions these days...it's more likely that the new law would facilitate adoption by one parent of the other's biological child/ren, and I believe Switzerland also banned surrogacy, so it's not about 'ordering' a baby. If legal, the common situation would be one women requesting a sperm donation and then the spouse adopting the baby so both parents are legal guardians. For men, more likely one has a child from a previous relationship, and the new partner adopts that child...if their other birth parent has died or is legally unable to care for them.

The law allows this already for those in a civil partnership. Marriage would mean same sex couples can adopt children of whom neither is a biological parent.

Cartman's mom once made the same mix up in South Park. Tried the whole episode to get Cartman (an 8 years old boy) aborted. Hilarious episode
Phillip Dick once wrote a short story about an America where your could be legally aborted until age 12… interesting and thought provoking.

I disagree. I do think children can be born with some biases but these can be overcome and new ones created by environment, education etc.
We're quite literally blank slates to begin with. Everything is learned.

BS... my son's first word was "auto" , he is obsessed with mechanical objects. I was the same - my own mother recently related the story of their efforts to get me to play with my sister's dolls as a child - immediately threw them away.

I work with a Swedish lad - he's absolutely committed to raising his children in a gender neutral way and constantly expresses his frustration to me that his son refuses to wear pink or play with dolls.

Gender neutral is the opposite of what your mate is trying to do. Assigning pink to girls is a gender societal convention/construct . Getting stressed about a preference for blue is counter-productive. Avoiding pink or blue entirely would likely be the easiest thing. Kids have preferences. Just teach them there are no limits (other than perhaps biological) to what they want to do or be or wear just because of their sex.

If the children need to be adopted then they're hardly in that 'traditional nuclear family', are they?
Maybe the children just want to be in a family who will love them and care for them?
Of course, a genuinely nuclear family environment would explain the lack of kids in the first place…

Well done Switzerland, a great step towards openness and modernity, which we can be proud of.

Indeed. Some readers in 20Minuten wrote that it's rather sad that we even need a vote on this but looking at the red conservative communities, this is truly the most democratic way to move forward.

Nuclear. Formed around a nucleus. In the majority of cases a man and a woman.

No... doesn't really explain the lack of kids.

Oh wait. It's a feeble joke about RADIATION!!!!!!!

Neonatal abortion.

But how about 18/19 - to see if they're fit to take the responsibility of adulthood or not? Especially once hormones have calmed down.

A gay science fiction author wrote an intriguing short story where the sexuality of the child could be pretty much guaranteed to be heterosexual - and what would happen to the gay community.
