This is new to me, where did you get that info from? Wanna check this out (not doubting you, just want to find out more about it as this sounds absolutely nuts).
November 2020 was the worst. You can find all the data here: https://www.covid19.admin.ch/en/hosp...icu?time=total

Itís in German and youíll need to use various options to find the statistics youíre looking for. Iíd do a print screen for you but Iím useless with technology.

Burn out and stress according to Kassensturz. Itís been a trend for years now but Covid has taken its toll.

https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/bere...pflegepersonal

Iíve recently heard on the radio that some hospitals are considering requiring all newly employed staff to be vaccinated. This may well cause an even greater shortage in staff but I havenít found any articles to substantiate this.

Yup. Fueled by lack of personal and the belief that larger but fewer hospitals are more efficient.

Thanks. And Urs P Gasche is not a nobody or some babbler, I remember him/his work well.

I can't believe this info went right past me. And I can't believe the Bundesrat just let it happen quietly while telling us, we all have to get a vaccine because they lack hospital capacity.

More of this shit and I might get into conspiracy-thoughts too.

I'll inform Mr. Gasche to brief you prior to making another statement, just so you're in the loop of things.

They are already offering higher pay than in Germany. I certainly am not against increasing wages but that will increase health insurance premiums and it is still not a guarantee that the vacant jobs will be filled.
They only need to offer higher pay to the additional staff, it wonít make much difference to overall cost, even if they double even triple the normal pay.

Just to additional staff? Employees will strike if they feel their underpaid and the unions will support them.

Not in Switzerland. Everybody just mumbles about and generally does nothing to change the situation. Many people are just happy to at least have a job.

Generally I would agree with you but in this case, the public would be on the side of the staff

No need to know it prior to publications. I'd already feel less stupid if I weren't bloody 3 months late and had to learn about it on EF.

Re: Switzerland's ICU Shortage and Hospital Closures

There are lots of discussions on the subject. At the start of the pandemic there was the idea that money could buy a new ICU. So, managers bought the machines and made happy accounting of ICUs. Then, we learned people can spend several weeks connected to the machines and medical personnel is scarce. So, the happy numbers that assumed ventilators = ICU, were revised down to account for medical personnel effective availability. So, the fancy number of ICUs a year and a half ago was just a mirage.
