Sept. 25 Vote

2x 4x No!

Animal welfare BS, increase women's AHV age from 64 to 65, increased VAT, eliminating some withholding tax.

Re: Sept. 25 Vote

I would like to hear your arguments for voting no on the AHV reform.

I cannot vote, but would lean pro AHV, surely against the animal thing, indifferent to the tax proposal.

Re: Sept. 25 Vote

People of Luzern have a vote on the contribution towards Swiss Guard building renovation..

From nzz.ch

"In fact, the Papal State refuses to pay anything for the renovation of the barracks of the Swiss Guard, taking the position that it is a Swiss matter. In addition, church funds would not be used to finance construction projects. The buildings in which the guardsmen and their families are housed date mostly from the 19th century and are in poor condition. The cost of the renovation is around 50 million Swiss francs, or $53 million."

Unreal on all counts...
Papal State refusing to pay
Swiss tax payers stumped up 4million chf so far
Building still owned by Vatican !!!!

Re: Sept. 25 Vote

A few days ago I had a discussion about the "mandatory" retirement age. Considering the level of freedom in Switzerland, why should there be a mandatory retirement age in first place?

Freedom would mean to retire at any time and receive a payment or periodical payments according to your savings. It's enough to live? Great, why force you keep working when you consider you saved enough?. Not enough? Keep working.

If mandatory retirement age keeps going up, at some point there should be plan for people in literal back-breaking jobs. Quite hard to expect people working in construction until retirement age, injuries just accumulate over time. Retirement #1 and then retrain to doing something that the body can handle, possibly part time, etc.

Could you edit your OP to indicate what the votes are please?

It is a pretty useless thread as it stands now.

I assume it's for them to be able to reduce your payout if you retire earlier than the mandatory age.
Because with the current aging population trend and ratio of employed vs. retired, there is little chance the current funds are stable into the future.
So seems they need a way to "cut it shorter" than what you "deserve".

There is no mandatory retirement age. You can work as long as you want. You need to set an age for AHV and pensions though.

Government agencies have mandatory retirement at 65. For women as well.

Construction companies allow their workers to retire at 60.

It's true. I'm almost 60 and I'm struggling with the fast-paced and very much flawed digital expectations. The reliability of software has decreased while the expectations of employees self-servicing their pcs has increased.

If the law didn't discriminate against those 50 and older (requiring larger AHV contributions, giving more vacation time) the businesses would have fewer reasons to discriminate.

The unintended consequences of those laws were obvious.

Actually, the law:
- does not require larger AHV contributions for older employees. The AHV contribution remains - the same - fixed percentage for all employees;
- does not require more vacation time for older employees (it only requires more holidays for those under the age of 20). Collective bargaining agreements may envisage more vacation time, but this is not a requirement.

Only when it comes to pensions, then yes, older employees will often have higher pension deductions.
