Not that anyone in the EnglishForum has children or any other vested interest in the Lycée Français ... but it's a general expat topic, so I decided to post it.
You sure as heck know that my daughter goes there.

It is a pity that this did not pass as the school in Gockhausen is already at 3 different sites and bursting at the seams. There has been annual increase in inscriptions of about 20% per year and there is a long waiting list (non-French) to get in, especially for the 3-5 year olds.

Where the school was to built would have little effect on traffic and would have brought in an increased amount of ownership in the immediate area, as most parents do chose to buy.

Uster was discussed as a possible site in the beginning, perhaps that will be reconsidered.

True, but as I assume you know, Gockhausen in particular has really pushed Eigentumsbau in the last 10 years or so. So the percentage of homeowners in Gockhausen would be well above average compared to Switzerand in general. Well, well, not my problem really. The citizen of Gockhausen do what they think is best.

And the French Lycee will look for sites elsewhere I presume where they are more welcome.

The majority of Swiss residents are renters, not homeowners.

JLP:
1. Isn't the "international school of whatever" franchise looking at building a new campus in Uster? Would be interesting to have a new lycee right next door to that.
2. Do you really believe a lot of parents would move to Binz/Ebmatingen/Maur following the school? Seriously? I tend to doubt that.
3. And you think traffic would not be a factor? Have you been to Looren? Traffic between Ebmatingen and Maur or Fällanden already is a nightmare many mornings and evenings ... not sure if I'd want to add "evil expat parents in gas-guzzling SUV's" to that mix.

Tilia:
1. There may be places where the lycee simply is a better fit, mainly traffic-wise.
2. Same question I asked JLP - do you really believe lots of parents would follow the school to Maur and buy property there?

I can't comment on that. Although, Uster (among other possibilities) was discussed two years ago. Whereas Maur has been the chosed site for the last year (the local authorities "courted" the school).
2. Do you really believe a lot of parents would move to Binz/Ebmatingen/Maur following the school? Seriously? I tend to doubt that.
With new arrivals definetely, there are already quite a few families that live in that area. And for those living in Gockhausen a bus was being spoken about.
3. And you think traffic would not be a factor? Have you been to Looren? Traffic between Ebmatingen and Maur or Fällanden already is a nightmare many mornings and evenings ... not sure if I'd want to add "evil expat parents in gas-guzzling SUV's" to that mix.
It doesn't really matter now.

I will answer this as well- the problem is finding enough land to build a large enough school. At present there just 650 students.
2. Same question I asked JLP - do you really believe lots of parents would follow the school to Maur and buy property there?
Yes, for those who do not already own (answered above). Having done the "school run" for 1 year, I can honestly say it is excruciating!
