How to inadvertently insult a Swiss?

What is the best way to inadvertently insult a Swiss?

[moderator note from here on]
This post (plus the worst story post below) has been edited with the original content to which all posters either replied or [semi-] quoted removed. What I can tell you (IIRC) is that Hitler was mentioned and suggested to be Swiss and that WT was actually seemingly wanting ways to annoy our gracious hosts (slurp slurp).

WT upon the reaction of those who corrected him (perhaps too succinctly for his liking) decided today to pull the posts and now everything looks odd.

Forum policy suggests that any edits made, especially to replied-to posts, should be kept to a minimum. Because of this and because WT showed no consideration for web Netiquette, he's left the site.

There is little reason for any Swiss to be offended, Hitler was not Swiss and you only proved what a prize tit you are...

Would it offend people here if I deliver a swift kick to the ankle to everyone person who barges me in the street in Bern?

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Then I will edit mine from "German" to "Austrian" or "Austrailian".

...or Swedish

I keep on remarking how Zurich is the capital of the country at the moment. It's really surprising how many people bite even though they know I am baiting them ;)

Do you do this in Zurich or any major city other than Zurich?

For some strange reason, most Swiss get a little peeved when I point out that it was infact a Kiwi and American team who won the Americas Cup!!! I can't for the life of me understand why :msnnerd:. I should have guessed something was up when I passed comments during the final about it being an all NewZealand affair!!!

ah yes, the guy I sit opposite keeps going on about what a good week it was for the Swiss in sport - Roger at Wimbledon, that bloke in the Tour de France and of course Alinghi.

I keep on saying Wikipedia reference-linkBrad_Butterworth - that's a very Swiss name isn't it? And all the others they poached from Team New Zealand leading to some bad blood between the teams....

there is a long history of this : Martina Hingis, Michael Kratovil (ok born here, but no Swiss passport), his father (Czech hockey player who "forgot to go home" & entered the Swiss team) .....

can't talk really, as most of the Scotland rugby team have more tenous links with Scotland than my American grandmothers cat ... Leslie brothers ....

Oh & Catty .... South African ...

Well I'll give them Roger the Dodger and Cancellara (Tour de France bloke), so they have been having a successful week in sport. But Swiss money does not make a team Swiss!!! Allinghi=Mercenaries

But a lot of sports team do that, the USA is known for giving top athletes to US citizenship just to represent them, be it in the Olympics or elsewhere. A lot of sports teams are guilty of this, not only Switzerland. Personally, I don't care about the Alinghi at all, hehe...

A similar case exists with the Stanley Cup Champions. This last year the Anaheim Ducks had the highest number of Canadian players of any NHL team.

Mine was: after 8 years in the country, one asked me when I will learn German, and I said I alredy know German: "Heil Hitler". That did not go down too well :)

seems that in your case breathing does the trick ......

Re: How to inadvertently insult a Swiss?

What's the difference between Alinghi and Arsenal or even at times Chelsea? Should the English media tone it down when those teams are doing well in Europe as let face it, they probably do so because they have as little English players and management as possible? :D

Re: How to inadvertently insult a Swiss?

It's not the nationality of the crew that matters in the Americas Cup but the nationality of the boat. It must be made in the country that it represents. The Alinghi boats are manufactured here in canton Vaud.
