We have two friends on this canceled flight... They are re-booked for flights on Friday. Yes, Friday was the earliest the airline could get them back.

yep, they left us on the plane for 4 hours, got us off to 'make us more comfortable' left us waiting in the lounge for another couple of hours, all the staff buggered off, then they canceled the flight, then to insult us a bit more the plane took off and went somewhere else empty.

easyjet staff where as unhelpful as they could be, don't worry we'll stick you all on the next available flight, monday's is fully booked, we don't fly on tuesday, wednesday has 3 seats left etc etc

so I hopped on a train down to london and got a mate to pick me up then flew out of gatwick yesterday, now the battle for a refund of the costs.

I hope Easyjet made them aware of their rights as airline passengers under mandatory EU legislation: http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=125

And yes, that mandatory EU legislation does apply to flights to/from Switzerland if the other end of the flight is within the EU.

BTW, it also applies to flights to/from the US, if the other end is in the EU.

Re: Easyjet flight, edinburgh to geneva 28th nov

I wasn't on this flight but one to Gatwick in September. It took me weeks of hassling them for a refund of the original flight cost and the cost for alternative travel.

"It is their policy" that the EU compensation (EUR500 for flights under 1'500km) is meant to cover the cost for alternative travel which from my point of view is not correct.

At least the EU compansation did just about cover the extra costs for the other flight but I still think I've been short changed.

Other than contacting the BAZL, is there any other way of escalating?

See here (from the site I linked above):.
Quote:
In the first instance you should contact your airline to resolve a problem or complaint.
If you are unhappy with the airline’s response, you should contact the Air Transport Users Council (AUC), www.auc.org.uk1.
The European Consumer Centre Network, www.ukecc.net2, should be contacted when complaints concern European flights booked and operated outside the UK.
If your flights were part of a holiday package, you should contact your tour operator.
If you are unhappy with the tour operator’s response, you should contact Consumer Direct, www.consumerdirect.gov.uk3

Re: Easyjet flight, edinburgh to geneva 28th nov

If your flight is very important, then you should not use easyjet (or other budget airlines). Their policy is to cancel flights to avoid long delays in their statistics.

They will get you on their next flight at the same price you paid - but, as reported above this can be days later. Otherwise you will be refunded the full amount within about a week by whatever means you paid. Claims for compensation will take months.

If your journey is important and cannot be subject to potential cancellation, then BA/Swiss is your option. They will at least transfer you to other available flights with other airlines...

Re: Easyjet flight, edinburgh to geneva 28th nov

My Easyjet flight to Zurich was cancelled last Wednesday as Gatwick was closed and the south east hit very badly by the weather conditions. To be honest I had no faith in Easyjet getting up and running quickly once things improved so I rebooked with BA from London City for the Friday. The price was really good considering how near to departure I booked. Even got an extra 3kg of baggage allowance .

Hope everyone else is now back where they needed to be.
